What are people generally finding to be most efficient at running level 4 missions?
I used to use a Raven (pretty standard fit using a cap booster) and it made enough for what I was doing.

I use a raven. I don't need uber isk since all I fly are t2 and below and thats well within a few hours of grinding with a bog standard cruise fit. Plus its super easy to train up an alt for and still rake in the iskies while your main sits out in nullsec steadily training away.
Now if you need to fund cap ships or are just terrible at pvp then getting a pimp mission boat makes sense but for general day to day pvp funding you can't go wrong with a boring missile spammer that can gank and tank any races missions. Especially with the noctis about to come out which should pretty much kill the marauder market past those lonely few single account mission runners.
Face it. With a dedicated salvage boat that can clean out the average level 4 mission in literally minutes you will only see ravens, nightmares and machs in the mission hubs. Well probably a lot of cnr too but I just lump them into the raven tally. ;p

Apoc, no cost of ammo because of lasers. (only exception is that you have to get the lenses first, but thats a one time thing if done correctly) Used to fly domi before, but i still think Apoc is more effective.
In any case, i never have to warp out and still do decent damage. Drones help.

Domi, since it's not really worth the effort of training into another ship-type just for missions, and you can run one with almost no BS-related skills whatsoever.
Most efficient if missions are all you plan to do and thus you don't count training up a PvE-exclusive ship as inefficient wasted time is probably the CNR, they rip through missions fast. Or any of the T2 variant BSes, whatever they're called. Marauders. Those things are the most missiontastic mission ships of missioning, when you have the SP and money invested.

Well I actually use two ships, my Nighthawk (which I have been using since forever) is a great passive ship, no need to worry about tank (as it's omni) and T2 heavies gives me the DPS i need to finish off the missions in a good time. I have also recently started to use a Tengu, this is active tanked but to be honest they both finish missions in a similar time.
I bring in plenty of isk, around 50-100 mill a day depending on what I feel like doing. Which is plenty of Isk for my needs. I was gonna train for a Golem but don't really see the need if i'm happy sing the ship I use.

Edited by: Reine Jacotey on 23/11/2010 09:51:09 For ages I used CNR and CNS (Navy Scorpion) for my missions until I got bored of pretty much sitting in one spot and lobbing volley after volley of missiles. Furthermore, once I had learned all the missions and knew what triggers to hit/not hit, and when, I found that I was considerably over-tanked and doing mediocre dps, even faction-fit. After narrowly surviving a suicide-gank attempt, I knew it was time for a change...
That's why I've switched to an autocannon Maelstrom and am very glad I did. Now decently skilled at it, I'm doing about 50% more raw damage than I was previously while also having much better damage efficiency against the targets smaller than battlecruisers. Projectile guns allow you to retain damage type selectability similar to missiles. The tank is admittedly less than in CNR/CNS but perfectly adequate to the task. And now I enjoy being much more mobile and active in missions and in a boat that costs around 150M (big savings on the rigs ;) ).
Autocannon L4 Maelstrom: 3x Gyrostabalizer II 2x Tracking Enhancer II
100MN AB II XL Shield Booster II 3x mission specific Shield Hardeners (tech II) Hvy Cap Booster II (cap booster 800s)
8x 800mm AC II
Projectile Ambit Extension I Projectile Metastasis Adjuster I Projectile Collision Accelerator I
(needs 3% CPU implant)

Yeah I'm mainly industry at the moment but missioning is something I want to have a pop at plus I can use the ships I train for in mission running for clearing out plexes later on in life. Nightmare was something I was going to train towards.

I use to fly raven years ago even had CNR at one point, alright & more than likely very common mission boat... i use to read a book whilst missile travelled to target
Also used Domi in the past one of the lowest skill intensive mission boats ya can get to do L4 with
But now i use a Vargur - maruader - 800AC perma running omni tank, insta popping frigs at 90km and run it with 100mn AB cap last 10 minutes with large shield booster running.

Vargur, Paladin. Full rack of T2 1400s on a Maelstrom for Gone Berserk. Cruise/Arty Typhoon against Guristas. Fleet pest for when I'm feeling cheeky. AC Hurricane for when I don't feel like being bored to death.

It's much more enjoyable when you fit for minimal tank. If you are serious about the nightmare, you should take a look at the amarr battleships first. An Abaddon has very forgiving setup options for those looking at gunships, and one of my buddies especially loved fooling around in his Geddon and overheating what little tank he had until he ground the rats to dust. Wrecks don't shoot back. Gunships can do a lot more damage than missiles if piloted right. And the faster you can kill, the more ISK you get. How does that sound?

I usually run in a Typhoon on this char , but my money maker account runs a sentry Domi.
Domi is straightforward, cheap and versatile and has a more than sufficient tank.

Edit: if you're planning to clear plexes, train for Tengu, single best ship for plexes and WH *and* almost up with the best in missions, that makes it overall the best PVE ship in game.

Nighthawk, Ishtar, Gila, Tengu is what I use. Might complement them with a Sleipnir in ~10 days. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

With high drone and gunnery skills a domi is pretty much unbeatable when compared to other ships on it's price range.

tengu.
i only mission for sec so tend to use my pvp ships to mission in and the tengu can speed tank all level 4's with ease and if you choose to do them for the ISK then it's pretty fast at ripping through serp / guristas / angels.
Nightmare for speed running and passive shield ishtar for afk running, depends on the mission / what else is going on

Least until my Raven skills are a little higher - but currently on the back burner for more pressing skills. More ISK elsewhere than missions atm and only do them for standings rather than ISK.

I use a Navy scorp as it has the nice resistance bonuses and 8 mid slots.
6 launchers work as well as a raven really, though doesn't have the same velocity bonuses, but a target painter makes up for it.

Edited by: Magnus Orin on 23/11/2010 18:36:48 I dont usually do level fours. But I just reactivated on that free 5 day promo CCP sent out to deactivated accounts, and I ran a few level fours last night to raise some funds to move my ass back out to 0.0
I use a typhoon, with 5 cruise missle launchers, salvagers and tractors in the remaining slots.
Its armor tanked, and cap stable with an AB and cap mods (not boosters) in the mids.
I use hob IIs to kill the little **** and ogres to help with dps on the bigger stuff.
I only have 16mil SP and most is focused on smaller ships, (just recently hit Minmatar BS IV), and this set up seems to work fine.
I suck at missioning so I always kill triggers early, so i end up warping out a couple times per mission, but i warp back and just nuke from 50-70km away ABing at the highest transversal I can and once I kill all the **** that webs I can usually tank the rest no prob. Well I already stated that I use a Nighthawk and Tengu, but for me the shear killing power of the Nightmare is what I keep going back to.
I just love this ship, Killing out past 65-70km, destroying BSs in just a few vollies is a great feeling. A lot of people always say you should fly certain ships for missions to get the best Isk/hour ratio, I say fly whatever the hell you like, it isn't always about Isk/hour ratios. I actually like missions and admit i'm more of a PvE person at heart, so for me it's about fun, sure it's about getting Isk also but i'm not worried about how much I can earn in an hour.
I'm pleased to see that there is a whole range of ships in this thread and not just a thread full of Raven/CNR/Golems.

The Manticore is better.
Also, I used the Golem/CNR/Tengu and Vargur, depending on character. I'll be picking up a 700 DPS/700 DPS Tanked Arty Loki soon too. Um. Well. I mean, I have most of the pieces... but really I CBA to log in and put it together.

Re: Machariel: The ammo usage and weak tank. *I* wouldn't want to try to run DED Blockade in a non crystal'ed non-deadspace Mach. Then again, it has higher sensor strength for all those F'ing Caldari State/Guristas missions..... but I think I'll just use the Loki for that.
