I'm starting to work on setting up my Cruiser fit I'll be running for pve missions for a while, and I'm considering - Autocannons or Artillery? I don't know if there's a massive jump in the difficulty of the missions, that would make one setup vastly easier. I do plan to crosstrain eventually and have both available, but for now, is one superior to the other? I generally run missions with a friend who has a rail gun setup on his boat.

I'd be pretty tempted to use MWD+ACs.

Missions are 90%+ in deadspace.
MWD does not work in deadspace.
Depends on the ship you're running, ACs will vandalize anything near you but force you to run up to catch whatever's far. Barrage ammo is your friend here.
Arty is bad for close range. For far-away frigs, put the guns in groups of 2 or 3 so as not to waste a full volley. Use drones to take care of the close ones.
Careful management will do wonders. Pop all the frigs 1st before they cross the 15-20k line and they just evaporate.
Good luck.

I would say it depends on what kind of ship you are flying, smaller ships throw an ab on (mwds dont work in deadspace) and AC the hell out of everything. It makes mission running more fun when you fly with ACs.

This is true.
Arties are more handy for long range targets and save you a lot of travelling. However, if your ship don't have a decent drone bay and/or you have crappy drone skills, missions with a lot of (elite) frigates can be a major pain, time wise. Arties just can't track them up close. While you can still instapop them with ACs at 5 km.
So I'd recommend taking ACs, they're more fun, and fit an AB. Speed is your friend.

The thing with BCs is that they're so slow -.-

I didn't think they put that through yet... then again I haven't really been reading patch notes.
and I'd lean to arty
although flying a nano cane around in missions does indeed sound like fun

Some deadspaces do let you use a MWD.
But if you only have 1 prop mod, its annoying as hell when it doesnt work.

I tend to view long-range guns as less risky, slower mission running. Things like ACs as riskier, but faster (assuming enemies aren't spread too far), but this is based on flying ships set up for sniping early on.

I feel so sorry for the poor ******* they had manually change that attribute in every single mission. IIRC some if its already been deployed, and the rest of its being deployed next expansion.

Dunno how to copy out of EFT so I just wrote it out. Anyways. Potentially swap out the Afterburner for an MWD, Im keeping that in mind. What rigs Should I look at, if any? Money's not really a concern right now, my group is rather well financially. Empty low slot will prob be a Cap Power Relay.

As long as your missions primarily take you up against Serpentis or Angels, Autocannons will FAR outperform artillery IF and ONLY IF you have t2 autocannons and are willing to use expensive barrage ammo in missions. I use an AC Maelstrom for level 4s and it far outperforms the nighthawk I was using.

My view:
Mael with 800mm ACs is fun, especially in angel missions where all the mobs like to circle at 10km range, Angel Extravaganza comes to mind. Actually I can't see it being done without autocannons. Other fun ships to fit ACs on is cynabal and t3 cruiser (Loki).
Battlecruiser with ACs in a lvl3 isn't all that hot.
You take damage all the time but can only do damage when you are really close. Mobs damage you from 50-60km, you have to get within 20km, so a lot of flying around to get close enough to groups of enemies. I tried it for a short while with a Cyclone but switched back quickly. Doing missions with arty just seemed so much quicker (can do damage all the time) and a lot safer.

I am a huge fan of AC's for pve and avoid using Arty unless absolutely necessary. If you're using a cruiser I'm guessing you're running L2 or L3 missions? Most likely using AC's will be fine as most stuff in those missions has a fairly short engagement range.
Imho AC's are really fun to use, they support a more active play style to keep me awake while missioning, and they do great dps considering the range.

Put some HAMs in the remaining high slots, figure out your optimal range for both weapons systems and let fly with all you've got as soon as you're in range (optimal + falloff for the A/Cs).
Flying a Rupture can be exhilarating, keeping your guns blazing, moving from target to target, and feathering your armor repper. Lots of fun.
