Well finally splashed out on a lap top but Im not sure if ti was actually that good...
System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II P920 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~1.6GHz ??? Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Memory: 4096MB RAM
I just thought the CPU speed of 1.6 is rather low, or is it balanced out by the fact there is four of them? if so wht is the effective CPU speed, for knowing what the laptop can run etc?
I have no idea about laptop graphics and relied on the guy instore.... so what do you all say?

For most common applications + games, your CPU clock is your effective CPU speed. Relatively few applications are multithreaded, and as such cannot make full use of the other cores simultaneously.
As for the video card, you'd be hard pressed to find a better card, excluding ridiculously priced "gaming" laptops.

hosed on the CPU lol 1.6 and it's an AMD (not as fast clock for clock as an intel)
laptops better off with dual cores... quads are clocked too low... and as said... with crap that runs one thread... your taking it up the butt... 1.6 ghz i mean, i have a p4 that was clocked faster lol... (likly slower but still the point).
At least the gpu aint fail but...
You leave out what you will be doing... but that's still REALLY slow... talking 3.2ghz dual core (multi threaded apps) so only place you will see a benifit of having a quad is... miltithreaded apps you will be hurt on apps that run one thread.

Wish my 3.3 GHz hex core had a laptop version :)
Imo, 1.6 GHz is really low now a days even with multi cores. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
