Ok so I was reading someone's suggestion that you should be able to warp anywhere in a system and one issue that came up was the near impossibility to catch someone without a prober. I think I may have a near solution.
Pretty much a module that you use on a ship (graphic looks like nos maybe?) and if the target warps off you follow them in warp and land shortly after them at the land point. This would let people follow quick ships that warp off quickly from gates or belts or whatever to their safes or possibly for small gang warfare everyone has this module so you can hunt down targets like mean ol wolves.
Btw i just got a dread guistas flame shield so dont even bother with that there trolling

Best "don't troll me bro" yet.
Following a target through warp is one of those things that should be possible but is just meh when trying to theorize on. My personal thought is it shouldn't be a module in itself, but be tweakable with modules. Something like it would be possible to trace the warp disruption and follow it, but smaller ships leave a smaller disruption, can equip modules to distort the disruption, etc.
Main reason I like it is it provides a tactical option in combat for fitting aside from 'you don't have a scram on? ******' -More Pewpew, Less QQ- |

Well, fighters and fighter-bombers do exactly that. They can follow people through warp.
Let me tell you, they can be pretty annoying. If I imagine everyone having this capabilities... no, thank you.

I'm firmly in the "no thanks" camp on this one.
Warp scrams/ disruptors/ webs/ sensor boosters+res script etc. are there for a reason. Choosing to fit one or more of these in order to get and hold a tackle is a trade off on tank and other e-war. This is reasonably balanced imho.
Gotta say, this idea looks a little too much like " I failed to manage my cap/ range properly, and my target out-piloted me and got away.....I need a mod that means I don't have to learn to fly better" kind of thing.....
...Not saying that is what you're moaning about, just that it does kinda look that way
Oh and a sensor/ remote sensor boosted inty/ dictor is what you need for fast warping ships...That and the ability to accept that you can't catch 'em all |

I must say I'm also not really for this one, even if you do warp to a safespot you get a chance someone is able to follow you.
Also, considering if you're close enough they would just use a warp disruptor, this module would need to have 20+ km range to be even considered by anybody, considering you need lock anyway. ---

Nobody has said it yet...
If you look at the ship that you want to follow, when they warp you can see what direction they went. This is because all ship have to align to their destination before they warp.
Now there may be multiple warp points in the direction that they went, and it is your job to figure out which one they went to. Of course every situation is unique, but here are some hard and fast ones;
Sun: The only time I warp to the sun, is if I'm trying to get away from someone (usually in a pod), or if I'm probing the system. So it would be good to assume your prey went to the sun for these reasons as well.
Station: If they are going towards a station, its probably not so they can orbit it a few times, its so they can dock with it, and conduct whatever business they have. So if your prey goes towards a station, a good tactic might involve not following them just yet- instead check other areas in that direction that would have immediate results if the mouse were there.
Stargate: This is easy, they are just passing through the system. If they are actively traveling, it may be hard to catch up with them, and unless you know something personal about the pilot, it may be hard to follow him through multiple gates. If however they are on autopilot...
Planet: They are sightseeing, or doing PI, either way they are gankbait.
Asteroid belt: They are either ratting, or mining, and will be in the belt for a few minutes, making it easy to catch up. However whenever there is a belt 1/2/3 etc, they appear as if they are right next to each other from far away.
Oh and as a side note, whenever I travel through nullsec, I enter the system, choose a random celestial object, warp to it, then immediately warp to the gate I was going to anyways, this is a good way to avoid bubbles, since they are usually set up in line with gates. Beware, your prey might use this tactic as well(and so should you!).
So there you have it, no modules, skills, or advanced intel, just the ol' peepers. Of course this only works if they were within visual range before they warped, but I gathered that's what you were talking about.
Glad I could help! |

Kind of what I was hinting at in my edit, just didn't spell it out as clearly as you did.
If you are fast and observant you can follow people in warp. It's not 100% reliable but then imo it never should be. If you introduce a mod that essentially means that the chances of escaping a camp/ gang drop to near-zero, then the number of people (read: targets) available in low/ null sec will drop like a stone.
This would be a bad thing imo. |

Great minds think alike...
Just not exactly alike?
BTW, as soon as I posted that first reply, I kind of regretted it. I mean, why tip the prey off about how they are being hunted?
But, then again, I doubt this will impact my game play, so...

I am suprised you didn't mention customs offices, they have the same allign to a planet and yet no one expects you to warp to 100 on one.

I would not even expect that! Which could explain why some of those fish have been getting away...

Yeah, you can look to see where they warp. Doesn't mean they're gonna stick around until you get there. Doesn't mean they're not just warping to a safespot near that location. Doesn't mean they're not warping to a moon of that planet, or Customs Office, or a belt. Looking breaks down when your opponent has an IQ higher than 80. Use probes instead. -

I never warp to zero or 100 when I'm running. And If I'm chasing someone I warp to one and have someone else warp to the other. That said, you realize one they hit the warp button you can't "look at" thier ship anymore. You have to guess from where ever you happend to be.
Also the OP was talking theory for if they were to add free warp/precision warp to the game. He's not asking for at as a feature right now, as is.
