We have a profitable POS-based T2 module operation that builds a relatively narrow set of T2 modules. We've optimized production and now we're just "turning the crank" and making good ISK.
I'm looking at where to go from here - this isn't a "what should I build" question - I can "do the math" and I'm not looking for freebie guidance :)
What I am looking for is thoughts on generally where the evolution moves on from here. T2 ship invention? Capital components? More/bigger T2 modules? Ultimately we have the ISK to move into more capital-intensive production but I'm trying to figure out generally where it makes sense to invest.

Stick to T2 modules. That's where the ISK is at. Then spend the time to find a good market.
For what it is worth, I currently deal in 2 different T2 modules. I have no problems quickly selling as many as I can be bothered to make.
I'd steer clear of T2 ship production. The competition is fierce, and many don't do the math.
Capital component production is very very very very... very... slow. Typically taking about 4 hours per component. Then the sales volume is only a few hundred a day in Jita, with a profit per component of as low as 200,000 ISK for all that time. The components are also huge, so you need a freighter to move them around in any decent quantity.
Starbase structures are pretty bad too. They've been on a steady decline, and rarely sell enough above cost to make them worthwhile. Probably okay of you build the PI components yourself.
I do like the T1 market, especially for stuff that you don't want to babysit. Ships can be profitable, and modules move (slowly).

Thanks, Tau. That bears out what I've been seeing overall.
I'll likely just start walking through some of the other T2 modules and seeing if expanding our catalog opens some opportunities.
I've definitely seen a broad range on T2 ships from "woot!" to selling for less than materials cost...so I hear you.
I've looked at T1 production a couple of times and I may take another look there - profitability on some of the items was surprisingly high in the right places.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the ISK/hour and the overall effort required...although I'm starting to have regrets about a medium tower. I can't say I wasn't warned repeatedly not to do it :)

Whats wrong with the medium tower?

Probably powergrid/cpu limitations that prevent easy expansion of r2 manufacturing operation. Without anhoring new tower.

I've pretty much maxed what the tower can support for T2 production (copy->invent->manufacture) and so I can see the time fairly soon where I have more toon capacity than tower capacity. I hired a 'gunslinger' for standings to anchor...so it would be a challenge to 'upgrade'.
I believe I would have been better off underutilizing a large tower early on as it would have given me more room to grow. The costs would have been higher but manageable, and I wouldn't be in the situation of deciding if I want to do what would be a somewhat expensive and difficult swap.
