Because it's a fraction of the price. Additionally since the loot tables were changed, and rigs were split into three sizes, the prime motivation for salvaging and looting wrecks has taken a back seat to bounties (for ratting) and LP (for missioners).
I wish the Kronos was worth it, but in its current form that is not the case. I would much rather everyone agreed on that point and started discussing what could be done to boost it without it becoming OP rather than attempting to make it look like an equal to the other, far better, marauders.

Wake up, it doesnt matter if its 5x or 10x more expensive. You are not going to lose it in hisec and you can comfortably sell it the next day if you dont like it - with minimal or no isk loss. And looting/salvaging while doing mission still means nice bonus isk.
And 150dps with more range means better isk/h by itself.

Never having flown a Pali outside Sisi I don't know but why would you fit anything but Megapulse IIs on one? Loading Scorch there should be no trouble reaching orbitting NPCs except when tracking disrupted out the yin yang, the tracking is significantly better, the damage at least comparable... and you don't want to be engaging outside 40km anyway... With Amarr Navy Multifreq your range is about perfect to take full advantage of a decent web and the tasty little web bonus.
I'm sure there is a good reason, but what is it?
Multiple reasons.
-Greater maximum range.
-Nearly the same dps as megapulse.
-8 to 10x more falloff, making them MUCH more resistant to npc tracking disruptors.
-Cheaper to operate. You'll be using navy multi much more often. Scorch(even though it is only 4 guns) costs tons more per shot since they burn out with fewer shots and the cycle time is faster on mega pulse.
-95% of the targets you can hit with mega pulse, you can hit with tachs + web if it even comes to that
The only drawback is that you need to fit a faction (2000 powergrid) rep. You also can't fit an afterburner without sacrificing a low slot or rig.
Of course, nightmare owns it in pretty much every way, but the paladin does compete pretty well.

Yes because your ships are protected from going boom in hisec. right.

I can't find any issues with it myself. But I have listed the highlights
Wow...some revelations here. Can you share your fit with me?! I looked for the race ISK'er for years and failed to find one(except the (sentry)drone-boats, which i hate to death in the missions).

And how exactly do you plan to lose your marauder in hisec? Getting concorded or getting killed by rats? Or do you think anyone will bother to gank your marauder for faction sb and magstabs?

if your doing missions in Gallente space vs serpentis the Kronos actually works very nicely. Keep a dominix in the hangar to use vs angels, blood, sansha.

I have the access to Gallente lvl4 agents, but now my primary interest lies in the Minmatar/Caldari space. Will the Kronos be as good in such missions? If only in Caldari, i think?
Anyway, please, share your fits if you have the real and approved ones. Thanks.

Difference between navy and regular T2 are 849 and 832 so not much of an upgrade to use faction aside from tank and that is actually t2 that I personally use (exept LAR).
That's a pretty dull fit for a domi these days -- with a shield tank you can get 1K+ dps easily. More if you use a DNI and 425s.

indeed. imo I'd take the kronos over the domi any day. most of the domi/navy domi fits I see just lack something. when you need to fit 4x mag stabs, 2-3 tracking links, 2 sda rigs, a rack of guns, a tank, and some sort of cap stabilization just to be competitive.... it just doesn't work. tbh I think the fabled "torp cnr" is a more manageable feat.
kronos might not be able to straight out win on the dps factor, but it has enough of an advantage in other areas that I prefer it.

I love my Kronos too.
Has a great tank almost 2000 rep a cycle with the repper I use and the dps is more than enough for any mission, and it's cap stable to boot. I can't give numbers cuz I don't use the fitting guides everyone seems to like but imho it kicks ass.
I can use a Golem but I find missile boats really dull to fly and is the reason my CNR has not been used in ages. Much better to have your own opinion than follow the crowd if you ask me. It suits my playstyle and for me that is enough. It may not be the "best" marauder on the block but it's no slouch either.
What flavor do you like

Nothing you've said makes it anything other than the worst marauder by far.
You might enjoy flying your big gold boondoggle around but that still doesn't alter the fact it could use some serious fixing, that is what i'm arguing for.
Currently, there are far better options out there, which require less isk and less SP, and do far more.
I quit flying it because grinding L4 missions in hisec got seriously boring after a while, and it's just not suited for taking anywhere associated ith the slightest risk. That doesn't mean I don't want it to be a good ship, but right now with the state of LOLhybrids and the terrible mix of attributes and bonuses its been given, my advice is don't waste your time.

I think the only thing needed to change to bring it up to spec with the others, is. Change the webbifier bonus to the falloff bonus the Varg has and it would be a great ship.
The hybrid issue is a different matter though, but the Kronos does not need a massive change to make it a good ship. Just a small tweek.

Edited by: Suicide Cid on 01/12/2010 16:50:54 Not an EFT warrior so I will type my fit long hand
4 x 425mm RailGun II 1 x T-Beam 1 x Salvager 1 x Drone Link Augmentor
3 x Shadow Serpentis Tracking Comp 1 x Cap Recharger II
1 x Corpus X-Type LAR 2 x Mission Specific Hardner (cheap faction ones) 4 x Mag Stab II
2 x Large Hybrid Collision Accel
Mix of Med and Light drones.
The key to the above fit working is the repper. Without it I would die fast.
Gets 17.x Damage mod and 5.3 sec r.o.f with my skills. Use Fed AM 99% of the time and Fed Thorium for missions like serp spies.
It may not be the best marauder, but that does not mean it sucks!
This is very fast for all of the level 4's. For cargo delivery I offline the Drone Link and replace the cap recharger with a cap booster :)
Can hit sub 10k cruisers with 3 tracking scripts in if you hit keep at range and keep transversal down a little. Hits BS well upto about 80km with 3 optimals in.
3-5 volley most Serp Battleship NPC's at a reasonable range. 5-8 volley Angel BS.
In all honesty I pretty much only fit between Angel and non Angel. For other missions the base EM is fine.
edit: After thinking about it, I have 7 mil + in drones, and how on earth people believe you complete Level 4's faster in a domi than a mega / kronos is beyond me.
Level 4's in a Domi is like watching paint dry - and I always gank fit everything so I don't think it is my fit.

I totally agree Domi takes ages compared to Kronos. Btw your damage mod is a little low.

+1
Anyone that has actually flown and compared a kronos with a dominix know that a domi defenitely does not run missions faster then a kronos. The dominix is a good ship, but its gun dps leaves to be desired, especially the tracking and/or range part. Plus the kronos has some general benefits to it like more speed, better targeting, more cargo, stuff like that.
Comparing the kronos to the other marauders will make it lose out, but thats more a rail dps and blaster range issue then that it has anything to do with the ship, after all, its practically identical to a paladin in terms of slots and bonusses.

First off, your rigs add nothing. They're worse than horrible, sadly. Secondly, your kronos fits puts out around 900 dps(just below). I'd love to see your "gank fit" domi. Thirdly your metrics on performance are quite poor. The amount of volleys a battleship can survive is rather irrelevant, especially withuut giving a complete scenario. Meassure income per hour or missiontimes instead. Parrots, commence!

I just recently got myself a Kronos and it does seem to perform rather nicely. Although i havent run that many missions with it yet... This setup can project its damage very well with nearly any range. Im not so sure about the rigs though, might change them later. Also, using tracking speed script is recommended, i've noticed big difference in hit quality. There seems to be a small gap around 15km-20km where tracking is bit problem, overheating the web works but, meh...

I think the problem that Kronos has is that its being compared to other marauders/ships using different class weapon systems
Paladin/Mare = uses mainly tachyons which are oversize, tier4 weapon system. I simply love my Nightmare. Tachyons simply are the king: superior range, damage and tracking for their size
Golem/Vargur = uses short range weapon systems which naturally put out high dps, especially in EFT... Golem has issues with torp travel time/range and explo radius/velocity and Vargur is most of its time firing on falloff. But people just ignore these because their eft dps is over 1k
Now that Kronos is using tier3, long range weapons, its EFT dps doesnt climb as high as others. But it doesnt have same issues that Vargur and Golem have, since it can quite nicely shoot at any range. Also, the thermal/kinetic is not that bad for missioning.
If comparing Kronos and Vindicator, Kronos has T2 resistances/bonuses, 40km tractor and reduced ammo consumption which make it much better missioning ship.

I think I will let you have the monopoly of EFT warrioring and lecturing others based on your vast experience of theoretical damage analysis.
I will go bury my head in concrete such is my shame of failing the EFT so hard
