Edited by: Nova Fox on 29/11/2010 23:40:04 In this day and age when a single computer can have two monitors for work space dual monitor support is something alot of games do not feature but the few that do open and entire new can of possibilitys of infomration and response.
Eve as complicated as it is there simply isnt enough room for it all. but now finally thanks to the latest patch we can now not only strech our window across two monitors but also offset center. Combined wit AA support the game can begin to look truely amazing while providng access to more all at the same time without sacrficing visuals as well.
Originally by: Patch Notes Incursion 1.0
- "The EVE client is now resizable in Windowed mode, allowing the players to stretch their client over several monitors. Now EVE Online is much more beautiful in ultra-widescreen resolutions.
- There is a new version of Windowed Mode called Fixed Window. It is similar to the regular Windowed Mode but lacks any title bars, frames or borders.
- A new option, ôHorizontal offsetö has been added to the settings menu. It allows the player to have all menus on one monitor and focus on his ship in another monitor.
- EVE now supports anti-aliasing. The beauty of virtual space has never been moreà beautiful.
Although this isnt true dual monitor functionality the features offered allows the user to make thier own idea what that should be which is a more pleasant experince as the user is more in control of the information displayed unlike a few games with force dual monitor support viewing. I didn't think anything would trump my excitement over the learning skill SP refund.
You've proven me wrong.

I was also excited over this until I remembered that I use my second screen to run a second client :o
Still neato though -

I wish I ran windows so I could get exited about getting a feature I've had for years.
Lol sike.
But seriously I am happy for everyone. Almost thinking about dual booting to see if the new improvements make it look better on windows than it does in slackware.

I agree - I really love the new dual monitor support.
However, I hope they can fix it so when you are stretching across two monitors in "Fixed Window" mode, the client will actually sit above the Windows task bar. Right now, the Windows task bar shows while in this mode, and it is terribly annoying.

I'm actually most happy about the new locked window mode.
I run a 24" monitor next to a crappy 19" LCD tv.
Running eve on the 'second monitor' in windowed mode was a terrible option since the border of the window would take away a good chunk of screen space which was already at a premium on the low-res tv. Fullscreen mode can be prohibitive, and so I stopped running two clients on two monitors, preferring just clicking between two windows on one monitor.
With the locked windows, I can have one client running on my main monitor at near-fullscreen (while still maintaining my start bar, and a few desktop icons) and the other client running on the lcd tv at 'fullscreen' without the limitations on that mode.
My only complaint is that now, with two clients running at max, I actually experience a little graphical slowdown when loading grids and undocking. But I suppose I could turn down AA to 4x ;)

I run and love Slackware on my other computer, but that has nothing to do with this discussion. We're not talking about multiple desktops, we're talking about being able to recenter the camera, so you can have your ship on one monitor and have another for all of EVE's various windows.
Also, Windows has had multiple-monitor support for a while now, so I'm not sure what you're even saying.

Yeah... it's pretty awesome.
Only downside is that you can't run multiple clients on multiple screens using any of the tools I've found out there, so I had to write my own. The actual changes to existing tools should be pretty minimal tbh. (If there's a need for it, I'll change it from being hard coded to my toons and release it I guess.)

Aye its a step in the right direction,
Just wish they did not break dual/tripple boxing with eyefinity in the process. I used to be able to run 3 clients, 2 at 1920x1080 on each outside screen and one at 5780x1080 across all 3 screens, Then using evemon could re-position the main client (5780 one) to boarderless. Now, main client can not be re-positioned by evemon and the task bar stays op top of the client!! so i loss alot from the bottom of the screen, and now the outside clients (1920 ones) try to snap to the monitor edges (win 7 feture ftw) and changes the resolution in the process. in fix window mode, all clients try to stack on the left hand monitor!! cant move them, very fustrating.
fix-break-fix-break, standard ccp model i guess.
ALSO FIX THE -VERT Aspect ratio!!!!!!!

I've noticed the same taskbar issue when running multiple eve clients, I'm not entirely sure it's an eve issue as when I run a single 5760x1080 client, I don't get that issue.
Also, evemon/evemover/etc snaps to the top left (0x0) of the monitors it detects, when you have a monitor in span mode (multiple displays running as 1) it only sees one monitor. They need to add a horizontal offset option to the relocation tool. I have it working, but I expect if enough people have the issue it's going to be patched into evemon anyways. If not, I'll get it to a public release state. ----- Cheesecake, Natures ultimate weapon. |
