Edited by: Strrog on 02/12/2010 03:45:57 I just wanted to check something related to EVE frame rate performance.
My concern comes from seeing a constant lag especially in Level 4 missions.
Sources of lags:
missiles - though were changed that they are not an entity anymore.
any type of battleship salvo - hybrid, arty, etc. though it should cause less lag then missiles.
I do not encounter these issues as much in level 1,2,3 missions for some reason I have seen it occur more ofthen in level 4s idk.

Deadspace smoke/fog has always slightly lagged my desktop at close range and severely lags my laptop at any distance, this has been the only source of any performance issue I've had thus far.
Is there any reason there's not an option to turn the smoke off? The laptop can handle all other aspects of EVE at medium-high fine.

Turn all your graphics settings to minimum in Eve.
If that helps, there's not a thing in the world CCP can do for you. --Vel

I play on a crappy laptop so what I do is turn the graphic settings to as low as I can and zoom out all the way. It usually works well for lvl 4's and as the previous poster said NPC Smoke and Enviroment can be annoying.
Since moving to Null Sec it has been about the same but I get good days and bad days depending on if there is a fleet fight going on.

I always get lag when I try to watch large guns firing or hitting something. Also clouds at close range destroy my FPS, but if I zoom out it's all good.
My computer hasn't recieved any upgrades since it was bought around two years ago though, so... -

Well I am not sure if I need to upgrade my machine but from my understanding its mroe then jsut fit to run eve on high setting. The only thing that I always turn off is the shaodows - bane of any Frame rate.
I got 512 mb video card 3 gig of ram and running Vista CPU is dual 2.2 ghz total no spyware on machine and constantly cleaning up registry with Registry Mechanic drivers are up to date Spysweeper installed with firewalls
Ya gas clouds when i warp into it give me graphical distortaions upon coming out of warp bu then its all normal. Also I noticed on all missiosn i can get *undead looking ships* will have say 50% of their tecture missing/invisable at a random.

There's alot more to a Graphic's Card than just the memory.

Hmm maybe i misunderstood someone I though CCP were going to remove the entity state from missiles or were planning too.

The only time I run into framerate issues is (a) aforementioned gas clouds -- CCP really needs to update the way those are rendered, as they didn't change with Trinity graphics update; and (b) wracked stations in missions, where they are at close range -- for some unfathomable reason they seems to be very heavy on the polygon count.
Both of the above have been an issue for a long time, over several video cards of varying capacity -- from nVidia 8800 GTX 512Mb to now ATI 5870 with 1Gb memory.
I'm hoping that fixing (a), along with a rework of several other effects (SeBo, I'm looking at you!), will be either the second Christmas surprise or part of Incursion release(s). Pretty please with sugar and cherry on top, CCP?

OK so any ideas on 1) projectiles/missiles lag, 2) undead looking ships with half or more textures invisible?

I have a beefy system and the only time I experience frame rate drops are at the above mentioned times as well.
1.) Fog/Smoke = Ugly/FPS ***** 2.) Structure with a thousand holes in them, the abandoned ones.
