Simple: if you could, what would YOU want EVE Online to be.
Me?
I'd take exploration several steps further. Make you feel like out in the middle of nowhere. I was doing a small encounter with Sansha near an abandoned asteroid base.\
All these wrecks and battlefields and abandoned bases: It'd be SWEET if we could land, explore those derelict locations, and get loot, research, etc.
What about you folks? ----------------------------- Welcome to EVE. Ship happens. |

Pretty much make Eve feel a little larger: not make it larger but feel large. The illusion is just as good: but also tie in some story line. Eve has some great characters, great background but it don't really feel (as a player) it tied to the game much. So taking epic Arcs further would be nice.
Maybe some player led innovations. Say found an uber rare item out in WH space on the sleepers, player researched said Item and found out X information about them. Doesn't need to help him, doesn't need to give him a buff, but a nice little piece of information you can gleam helps immersion.

Yeah, wish EVE had more story to it. Cutscenes / trailers were always good for it, and the books were great.
Makes me wonder if anything will ever happen with the Eve Gate (not the site, the in-game collapsed wormhole). ----------------------------- Welcome to EVE. Ship happens. |

Ability to change Empire security status and sovereignty, rather than systems getting owned by players (like 0.0) other NPCs can own, would be nice to see NPC empire crumble or Jita drop to 0.1 sec status lol

More evidence of player influence.
More dynamic systems.
No stargates between constellations and regions outside of the core five regions.
Jumps Drives being standard method of long distance travel (Star lockon).
Revamp of the ship classes.
For more realistically versatile ships.
True Sovereignty 2.0 as proposed by one of my former mains: Sobeseki Pawi
Slotology of ships to be more about effectiveness choices than arbitrary game design limitations.

The only thing i would change would be to have a null sec occupied by mnay many small alliances rather than super sized alliances. Make it so that each system you own, the maintenance increases exponentially, making it near impossible to own, say more than 25 systems. Then limit (or add a maintenance) to blue lists so you cannot NAP an entire region (thus defeating the above change).
Otherwise, I like eve the way it is and heading (dont flame me! i am not complaining...just brainstorming )

I would remove CAOD, GD and OOPE forums, and restrict the rest to posting with your mains via amount of sp. EvE would be perfect then.

--> Challenging PvE content that needs co-op play --> Incarna with Walking in Ships, lip sync, loads of animations --> A LOT more space, so we can have deserted outposts far from empire --> Good agents equally spread among the NPC corps --> More prettier ships --> No more "cannot transport rigged ships" restrictions --> No insurance for ships destroyed by concord --> An AFK status in chat channels
.. to name a few things that would make me happier ..

They should make another mmo, set on the major planets of the empires. Allow players to work their way up the political/corporate hierarchy, give missions to eve-players (would make agents a bit more interesting), influence and be a part of politics in the large factions and npc-corps of eve, declare war on each-other, and have eve/dust players do the fighting. Basically - turn all the npc-factions of eve into a ground-based mmo and tie everything back into eve.

Making corp theft and espionage less proliferated, maybe prevented by game mechanics (you can't stop someone from using external comms to give out intel, but you can make all the alts on all the accounts of someone available for public scrutiny.) I'm not saying espionage is necessarily a bad thing, but when the enemy immediately knows about your every mode because people at every level of leadership are corrupt it gets ridiculous. Your reputation should be a valuable commodity in EVE, not something you can abandon for the price of one new character in the Bazaar.
Wide-spread knowledge that EVE is a player-based game, and that all NPC-related activities are just fluff around it to get started without getting OMGWTFBBQd by enemies.
Maybe even turning EVE completely into a player-driven universe: make all of space 0.0 (giving the new players the choice to start affiliated with a certain alliance, and vice versa alliances the need to hunt for new recruits and protect them), removal of all agents, NPC rats, NPC sold blueprints, etc. Would have to figure out some ISK sources though. Or settle for a compromise, leaving in the ambient NPC (lootable!) convoys and belt rats, but making all the production and acquisition of items player-driven.
More differences between systems. Giving a vide variety of sov upgrades, some of which are exclusive (e.g. you can either have +10% shields bonus in a system, or +10% armor, but not both at the same time). Resource differences between sectors: for example moon goo being distributed in a similar way hi/low ores are. Therefore encouraging competition and/or trade agreements. Even more generally, making distinct areas of EVE really different, other than the topology of the system maps. Freelancer for example was perfect in this regard.
No lag at all, regardless of fleet size (you said we can dream).
A coherent community with a sense of duty, responsibility and initiative. More people realizing that they are in this world with other real people, and behaving accordingly.
I would gladly pay twice the subscription fee for this, especially for the last point. ___________

I would want Eve Online to be a little bit faster in the skill training. My suggestion would be to add skillbooks that raise your attributes from 1 to 5 points per skill book. Those who choose to buy the books and train them would skill up a little faster. It's a win-win situation. Trace

No ECM.
Honestly, the first time I ran into an ECM blob the magic was gone. I had my boat, I ran into a group of 5 or 6 ships. I had 1 person with me. I was dead. I knew I was dead. But I thought "We'll take one of them with us!". Then the ECM happened.
I've avoided solo or paired PVP since.
Really only thing I'd love to see gone. Otherwise this game is about as perfect as it could get, IMO.

For me:
- keep the current gameplay, add more PVE (PVE can be more challenging but not just for the sake of being hard; it is a moneymaker after all and we need to reliably make ISK somehow).
- implement a much better interface (for me, "better" is an interface that is less spreadsheets-in-space and does some calculating and color coding and visual/audio warnings for my benefit, and also, I hate right-clicking and radial menus and love full keyboard controls).
- fix the huge vertical cliff that people hit when trying to find corps, and corps when trying to recruit new members.

I would like an EVE with no sec status, and no jump gates. Maybe just some guns around certain stations which react to aggression according to participants standings.
There, i fixed EVE.
