Just started playing, well sort of. I have had this account for over a year, and never made it past one Agent's tutorial missions. So with the recent update looming (2 weeks ago), I decided to give it another go, and I am happy to report I am having a lot of fun. I am still trying to wrap my head around everything, but I think I have the basics down, just not sure what direction I should head. So my question is: Should I be looking for a corp to sign on with or just go solo? I have read that you will have a better game experience with a corp, but I honestly know exactly zero folks playing Eve, so I get the loner vibe already. I have no idea on how to even go about looking for a corp..what things to actually look for if you know what I mean. Any advice or links to good reads would be fantastic. Thanks Rannz - Minmatar ~Looking for a stable corp~ |

Go for a Corp Definitely go for a Corp A thousand times extremely go for a Corp
I'd recommend you look up the Corp: Eve University.
They are a corp specialized in helping new players, if nothing else you'll get alot of pointers. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

In my experience, joining a corp is overrated. My employment history is huge because every corp I joined has not been to me liking. Either they suck or they never do anything or they simply slow me down. Maybe I was only cut out for solo stuff, but that's how it went for me. In the end I just made my own corporation and haven't recruited anybody yet.
That being said maybe it is only a matter of luck, whether you find the right group of people or not. No matter if this comment has swayed you or not, I still suggest trying to join a corp since it WILL give you the basics and someone to tell you the information you need, whether they are good or not.

Joining a corporation is good, if only because it gives you something to do. If you pick a factional warfare corp, there will be people organizing PVP fleets all the time. If you pick an industrial corp, there will be people mining all the time.
I would suggest that you don't view corp membership as a lifelong commitment. Don't bring every ship and item you own and plop it down in their station on day 1. Just look at it as an organization that comes together to do something fun. You'll probably join several of them before you find one to settle down in.

I'd definitely join a corp, but I'm not a proponent of the active recruiting system.
What I did was go solo for the first few weeks I was playing, and then myself and a couple other guys I ended up befriending made our own corp. That corp kept growing, even though we never actively recruited, we just kept signing up the random people we liked. It was like that for over a year, then Apocrypha came out and we moved into a wormhole. Some random people moved in with us and started shooting. One evening I was on my alt, camping the wormhole cloaked up in a Manticore when some random guy came in. I convo'd him, he turned out to be on the directorship for his corporation. Talked for a little more and they agreed to move in, put up a tower, and help us out. We sieged the enemy tower, got a bunch of kills, and forced them out of our wormhole.
A little while after that, we moved back out again and formed an alliance with our new friends. That was back in April of 2010.
Today, the alliance is still going strong. We're over 400 members and growing, moved out to lowsec and holding down 6 systems. The only place to go is up.
Good luck!

Ranzabar to Rannz...
Its a great question: go solo or go corp? Solo has been really boring and I'm looking for a corp that has patience for noobs and doesn't expect me to live on the game. I may look into the Eve University. See what the value there is.
I think that game is better with others, as long as they don't expect so much that its a burden. Also, I'm an older player (I'm over 50), so I can't always be as energetic as some of these guys who can play for hours on end.
So IMHO, find a Corp somehow that fits your playing style. Anyone have any suggestions?

Obviously joining a corp will offer more play options, but I've been playing solo for a while now, and enjoy the freedom.
Exploration, missions, industry, hauling (courier), and trading all work well solo.
It just depends what you enjoy.

Join a corp otherwise games can get boring.
If you don't at least try to find a good chat channel to hang out in and talk to people in.

It's an MMO, join a corp and MM it up... online
Just make sure you check out a corp before joining.
hang out in their public room do they do the things you want to do are they on the same kind of level as you do they have the same attitudes
check them out on battleclinic and see how many ships they lose\kill http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/index.php
Even if you're a big old carebear it'll give you an idea of how "picked on" their corp is.
Like the other guy said though, maybe you're suited for solo play but you'll never really know untill you try it differently.
and if you do like solo play.... X series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X3:_Reunion

You can definitely solo in this game. If you're an "explorer" type of player who just likes getting immersed in pretending to be a space pilot and noodling around seeing what there is to see, that is really possible. Just don't expect to be able to do anything "big" in EVE that way.
NPC corps are nice for soloers because you get all the chatty fun of a corp, but without the drama, and with no necessity for commitment.
Corps, I've found, work well when they're either:-
1) run with military precision (EVE UNI) 2) a small bunch of rl friends 3) a small bunch of people you've met in game that you get along with 4) crazy, and you don't mind that because you're crazy too
But only 1) above is likely to get you to do participate in something "big" in EVE.
As to the rest, it depends on whether your goals are in tune with the egomaniac who's running the corp. Most corps that are run by egomaniacs but at the same time aren't run with military precision will fall apart because it's so hard to really "vet" new members, and 9 times out of 10 the corp will fall prey to a scammer or outright weirdo screwing things up, or the egomaniac will be outdone by a bigger egomaniac.
But thusly Darwinism works its way out in EVE, and the few big corps that survive are the ones that are capable of doing "big" things in EVE. *****

This for me. Use a corp to make friends. Beyond all have fun. I for one have the most flying solo. This also has the benefit of allowing you a wider range of contacts since you're not always a 'red' to others.

I would recommend NOT joining a corporation at first.
Instead, join one of the player chat channels.
In your chat window, click on the channels button and join some of the channels that are available by default (trade etc.....)
Some player run channels:
eve-radio exploration synepublic
Read the conversations, get your head around some of the terminologies in the game. Once you can tell a griefer corp from a carebear corp you can start looking for your new home in new eden.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me via eve mail or convo request.

I totally agree with this post. Give yourself a few weeks at least to get to know the game a bit more. Some of the other players will be in your same boat and vets can share the gossip about some of the corps and alliances. My experience with my first corp was very positive but I keep odd hours so solo play is better for me until I work out my schedule and get my character skilled to my liking. If you do join a corp just to see what its like make sure they are online at the same time and have enough members to make it a pleasant experience.

Spend a few days just looking over these guides to see what is possible in EVE: EVE Guides. Here is where corps advertise: Recruitment Forum. You can make your own post there. Say what you are interested in doing, what time zone you are, any preferences (industry/pvp/a bit of everything etc.) then see who replies. Bump your post for a couple of days if it is not getting enough replies (that forum rolls very fast so your post may be on page 6-7 in just one day). There is also recruitment channel in game where you can look for corps. Then just try them out. Eventually you'll figure out what you enjoy doing the most.
