+1 If you think if a thread has over 10 pages it is necessary for, at the very least, a "we're aware and looking at it" blue post. More would be damn nice but the F&I forums is full of people who care enough about the game to duel out tiny little differences in idea suggestions because they want to help make the game perfect. A courtesy of attention to the highest activity issues should be given, and will allow a better sticky to be created ("Dev Responses to Hot Topic ideas"). -More Pewpew, Less QQ- |

I'd rather the devs spent their time, you know, developing, than prowling the forums looking for threads to reply to. --Vel

If they aren't already looking, there's no point in even having this forum.
If a high volume thread isn't worth looking at, there's no point in even having this forum.
So, I'm operating under the assumption that the devs weren't lying when they have said they look at these forums. A quick response to show they're taking the fact that an issue seems to be a hot topic seriously isn't too much to ask for if they're already, you know, spending time reading it instead of developing. -More Pewpew, Less QQ- |

A more valid concern then the first response, but if someone spams currently they technically do get a blue post when they lock the thread already.
The 10 page limit was based off the current threads, which there are several of which 10+ pages long and have either valid thoughts or good suggestions.
All said and done, a mandatory rule for dev attention is abusable, I'll give you that. The current state of selective responding though, especially when the response is a "We're looking at it" on a 1 page thread with multiple multi-page threads on another subject right below it, is silly.

Why should they respond to a thread if they have no input on the idea at hand? Do you know how many truly stupid ideas get posted in here that make it to five or ten pages? A lot more than the ones with good ideas.
Edit:
Or, you can read it in the dev's own words: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1424479&page=1#30 --Vel

They do it already. The Drake thread - "We're looking at it." 1st page of another random drake thread - "We're looking at it."
The idea being stupid or not is generally not the issue. A dev can say 'This is a stupid idea'.

They don't do it cause it would make them look really bad. For most of the threads they would have to write "we don't care about this" or "we think your argument is stupid" or "we'll probably do something about it, maybe in 1 or 2 years"
The devs may be busy developing, but they keep working on **** people don't need or consider low priority. At least 90% of all dev effort is total waste.

Personally, I don't think they should be banned from giving their opinion on a GM/DEV account. Every time CCP does respond it creates more questions and issues then benefit. Instead of responding to a post, they could have a page that lists what they consider the top 10 issues. I rather see more thought out communication from CCP. And telling them they must post after 10 pages will lead to major exploitation.

Anyone have any real insight, other than speculation, as to why developers (not just in EvE) behave like they do.
It seems there are really obvious imbalances responsible for pages of complaints for weeks, to months, to sometimes years (remember when minmatar sucked).
I just shook my head when its announced a new super-carrier is being released and wonder if I'm not missing something crucial.
I'd pay a extra 5 bucks on every subscription per month for an expansion that was just balancing and bug fixes (pauses to remove a contact and adds them again so they go offline)
Yeah. Sig ---

Yeah.
Having the game reach a perfect 'balanced' is impossible just because everyone has a different perspective on what 'balanced' is.
And if all they did was fix bugs then the game would be working great, but people would quit and move on to other games in boredom. The game must continue changing for its own survival. Staying the same equals death.

From personal experience it's either in house arguments or the fear that if you ever admit that you know something is a problem then the players won't stop hounding you until it's fixed.
Granted, the community I developed in was small enough to where I gladly called people f-tards and what have you for stupid ideas, and was high enough up that if I thought an idea was good I could push it through without worrying about half the BS CCP likely has to deal with.

Edited by: Syllein on 05/12/2010 13:43:18 Personally I'd like to see a few more Dev threads along the lines of "we are currently looking at/ discussing <insert topic>, Please make suggestions here."
Along the lines of the currently stickied thread by CCP Nozh here Linkage But in a less general manner.
Then at least we could discuss our thoughts on the matters that CCP were actively interested in at any given time. Certainly these threads would likely become very large, but surely it would be of more benefit to CCP to have a more "focused" discussion on a given topic.
Would not necessarily require a huge Dev input, as the fact that the thread itself was started by Devs on a subject they were working on would imply that they were monitoring it reasonably closely.
Each OP would ofc. contain a disclaimer stating that any Dev post was NOT to be taken as gospel, and that any dev replies are to be considered as nothing more than theoretical discussion. (For the benefit of those who assume that whatever a DEV says is automatically going to be introduced on TQ, and subsequently Emo-rant when it isn't).
