I guess this has been discussed before, but I think it's not a bad idea to talk about it now that CCP keeps taking steps forward to popularize faction ships.
Years ago they were just eye candy, overpriced ships that were lightyears away from being cost-effective. Today, not only most of them are viable, they are becoming much more integrated to the game with the market changes.
So I think it's about time to fix the inconsistencies between the different pirate factions, and give every one of their ships an unique hull. As it stands now, the blood raiders look half-finished (I'm looking at you, bhaalgorn), the Guristas/serpentis are quite lame, while the Angel / Sansha have a lot of work on their unique designs.
If you agree with this, and to make this thread worthwhile of staying in General Discussion, let's discuss what looks you think these reworked ships should have. Ships with bunny ears for the guristas? Count me in!
On a related note, I found this Bhaalgorn art laying around... Do want

why should every pirate faction spend billions of credits and years designing spaceships when blueprints for already combat effective ships are available on the open market?

Well, some pirate factions did that, why not all of them?
The reused hulls aren't really that justified. The ship descriptions often include a "based on the XXX hull..." you could remove that part, leave the rest untouched, and it would make sense.

It's not always in another factions best interest to design and create their own hulls.
You don't see Israel flying around in Israeli designed fighter jets, they like many other small countries (factions) buy from the big manufacturers (United States) and modify it for their purpose.

Different faction shave different backstories, hence different ship catalogues. Sansha were a complete empire of their own with their own technology etc before their fall. They have their own ship designs. The angels get most of their ship design from salvaging/retrofitting old Jove designs found in Curse. CCP couldn't be bothered making them bcs/dessies when they were introduced do they got the minmatar ones. The guristas stole caldari ship designs and are led by ex caldari military, they design some of their their own ships but the caldari navy copies them (tinfoil). Serpentis are a rogue gallente corporation, with deep ties still in the federation. The real question is why they don't have angel ships as their military are the gaurdian angels hired from the cartel. The blood raiders are mad ass amarr cultists, i guess factioning up the bhalgorn to match cruor would be nice.
You will notice the big powerful pirate factions (sansha, angel) who have large territories and major infrastructure have their own ship designs while the smaller rogue pirate factions (bloods, serpentis) who have small territories and limited infrastructure are more limited.

I'd like to see more ships for various factions in general, like Sisters of EVE ships, more ORE ships, maybe T1 ships from companies like Roden or CreoDron, etc. I think more diversification from the four main empires is good.
Basically, I want a lot more ship variety.

As mentioned above, part of the way the Guristas operate is to troll the Caldari by coming at them with repurposed versions of Caldari ships (or possibly, in the case of the Scorp, designing a ship which is then copied by the Caldari). So maybe Gurista ships should stay the same.
New models for some of the other pirate factions might be nice though. |

Other way round, the Serpentis hired the Angels to protect their assets, a deal that both sides found very profitable to the point of the Angels dedicating a entire wing to the Serpentis, the Guardian Angels (explains the daredevil hull, but I'd kill for it to be an Incursus model.)

He is comparing arm deals through nations with factions using hulls of other ships, rather than developing their own. Which is comparing Life to Eve...
I am comparing Eve to life in that laser beams don't show up in space and sound doesn't work too well in a vacuum.
So to reiterate Eve doesn't follow real life on the most fundamental level of physics, why should it on faction ships?

Its always made me wonder if at some stage in the development if CCP intended to give faction ships unique hulls and then changed their minds, either because they ran out of time or money or some other reason. Most of the Angel ships are unique for example and they also have several models of frigate and cruiser that only NPCs fly and Blood raiders have the unique frigate and cruiser but the BS is a reskinned model, then you come to the Serpentis and they have the unique frigate but the cruiser and BS again are reskinned and finally the Guristas have no unique hulls.
So in summery
-Angels, all ships unique* + extra rat hulls -Bloodraiders, unique frig and cruiser but reskinned BS -Serpentis, unique frig but cruiser and BS reskinned -Guristas, all ships are reskinned
There's definitely a pattern whether its actually because they did have to change the way they intended to make the faction ships before release or if there is some other reason but it just seems funny the way the unique hulls taper down like that.
*Destroyer and BCs are reskinned I know but those ship classes where introduced some time after the games release
