Edited by: Gianath on 05/12/2010 22:05:28 Edited by: Gianath on 05/12/2010 22:03:20 Over the weekend I managed to lose 3 stealth bombers. Not a big deal, that's the risk I take when I'm in 0.0 or low sec doing faction warfare missions. But it's the way I lost them that bugs the crap out of me.
I've gotten really, really good at slipping past gate camps and getting out of camped stations in my stealth bombers. When I am up against 3-4 hostiles, I can easily cloak and warp before even the fastest interceptor can lock on me. Stealth bombers are designed to do that. But when it comes to a roomful of opponents, it seems all they can do is go pop in the lag.
When I'm someplace like undocking from a major trade hub or slipping past a low sec gate with 20+ people camping it, I am so lagged to hell I can't click on anything before I am blown up. I literally cannot cloak warp before my 30 seconds of invulnerability wears off. And I have a really fast T1 connection too, happens from 2 different ISPs.
Who are these people who seem immune to lag and can target/disrupt/pop me before I can even click on a destination in the overview? Do I need to move to iceland to have a chance in a camped situation against them?

It isn't always lag (although lag is a big part of it).
First off, are you using a pretty powerful computer? Are you playing the game at full graphics? If not try to reduce your graphical settings to see if that removes some of the laggyness. Sometimes the struggle of the computer trying to display everything appears like lag.
Otherwise do not carry expensive things in stealth bombers in major trade hubs, no good can happen there. Lag has been within Eve for a long time and although CCP is trying to eliminate it all that happens is when they raise the threshold more people jump into the same system and lag it up again.
So all I can really advise is to run the game on lowest possible setting (when your hauling things in lowsec), and try to avoid crowded systems. _____ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always ascertain the vintage of the first two.

Yeah, I am on fairly powerful machines. Tried it with a pair of 2009 iMacs and a 2008 Macbook Pro, both using the absolute lowest graphics settings. The Mac Client may be my problem though, I'll see how things behave in native Windows eventually I suppose.

im playing eve on an old geforce 8400, while it can play the game on the highest settings with everthing on, no problems,
i discovered when i got a mission with 20-30 odd rats in it that it became very laggy so i had to changed the setting to meddium and the problem whent away,
more than likely its the graphics card trying to keep up.

I haven't had any bad experiences with lag recently until tonight, at present I don't seem to be able to sell anything or even load map data. Oh well, just give it a miss for an hour I guess.

If I may ask, and there is a good chance this has nothing to do with it but, are you playing from the USA or Europe? I have seen some cases where playing a game (EVE or other) in the USA (Which is where I live) has "some" lag related to it that Europe players do not get. This happens very rarely but I have seen it happen. It generally has to do with the way the internet itself is hooked up. When you start moving data from one country to another over the internet there are cases where the data becomes a "low priority". This is done by the USA internet borders going into another country. It happens rarely (if you see it happen, generally it's only for a few minutes) and only happens if there is a conjestion at the border nodes. Since 90% of the users online connect intercontinental and not outside the country this probably is not the cause of your problem.
However I wanted to put it out there only for completeness of this post and because it "can" happen. I like having all conceivable possibilities available for these types of questions.
