The noctis uses a pretty large amound of nocxium, compared to a typical ship and it's clear that the demand for this ship is driving all mineral prices up, but Nocxium is suffering the most, escalating by 30-40% in the past week. Given that nocxium can't be mined from any rocks in hi-sec it's only supply is shipments from 0.0 and reprocessing of loot in hi-sec. The rising price of the mineral has led to people buying up things like mining crystals to convert to nocx and so this has insulated the market against harsher price rises, but there are limits to this safety valve.
Now, this rapid price increase has lead to some of the noctis BPO owners to decide that right now is a suitable moment to scale back on manufacturing and get some ME research on their blueprint while the market 'recovers'. So, I wouldn't be surprised if noctis prices rise a little and the Nocx price recovers, but long term I'm wondering how much of a price correction we'll see in nocxium as the researched BPO's come online and we pass through the 'new shiny' driven initial demand.

Wait what?
The only highsec ore that contains Nocx is Pyeroxes and only in very miniscule amounts. Everything else is found in either lowsec, where it doesn't get mined at all, or 0.0, where it isn't valuable enough to be worth mining compared to ratting or other activities.

Oh, well I forgot that you get some from Pyroxers, but for a long time that was the least profitable mineral in hi-sec (used to be common to accuse someone of being a macro because they mined the stuff). So yes a hulk pulling in 1000m^3 of pyroxers will supply 100 units of nocx per minute.

Since when did Jaspet and Hedbergite stop appearing in high sec grav sites?

Hemorphite is a better bet if you're after nocxium TBH.
Arkanor even turns up in some hi-sec missions, but I wouldn't rely on the quantities there to satisfy the the megacyte supply. Just as I wouldn't rely on the contents of hi-sec grav sites to make up the extra demand for nocx - so let's be clear that the quantities mined in hi-sec are small compared to the amount supplied from loot refining and supplies from outside hi-sec. Yeah okay fine if you count highsec grav sites but blah blah.

Edited by: skye orionis on 07/12/2010 03:23:45 Well whatever, what does the price do in the long term, are we going to see every mission runner in their racial battleship of choice also owning a noctis and thus bumping up the importance of nocx in the mineral basket, or is the effect too small to matter in the long run

I'll sell you my Nocxium for 800 ISK pu. The only reason price has not go over 800 ISK is because people are desperate to sell thier nocx. You should buy anything below 600 ISK, and sell it for 800 ISK.

800/unit could put empire ores above ABC... Now if only the second half of the christmas present is banning 75% of the macro miners.

I'm sure there was something I used to reprocess that contained a lot of nocxium. Now what was it? Shield boosters? Help me remember here...

No it couldnt, and I'd wait with the joy untill the drone regions are secured again and mineral flow normalizes.
The current 0.0 conflicts have impacted the supply, and nobody is currently able to put a number on what the drone regions really did for empire minerals.
Oh and did some math and should the price of nocx reach 800 with other minerals maintaining their current price levels Pyro will be approx 50% more profitable than other highsec minerals. It will however still be significantly less worth than ABC'. Crokite might actually become more valuable than bistot.
Tbh at current Jita mineral prices raw regular bistot should be worth approx 111 isk/m3 while the highest you get on any other highsec mineral is kernite at 98 isk/m3. At 800 for nocx regular pyro should be at approx 144 isk/m3.

Mining Pyroxeres in high sec will not allow to produce enough Nocxium for the current demand in high sec. So Nocxium demand will not be meet by more mining alone in high sec. If it happen, it would kill the prices of Mexallon, Pyerite and Tritanium and the profitability to mine Pyroxeres.
The Noctis spike of production is only the last straw to a mineral in low production and in demand. The reduction of loot drop rate forced the raising of the price of Mexallon first, then Isogen and now Nocxium.
Given the profitability to mine Pyro is greater than the profitability to mine Kernite, we probably will see a sling rising of the prices of Isogen in the future (depending on the stockpiles available). I don't see Pyro and Kernite to move very distant on profitability, no more than now.
