LoL is like DoTA/HoN but for children, right?

It's made by the people whom worked DOTA. It's harder I would say because it's more offensive than defensive like DOTA was and far more finely polished. I think Battle Arena games are going to be the new thing. DoTA 2 will be released on steam sometime next year and Bloodline Champions is currently going through beta.

But it's already been the new thing once, so it'd have to be the old new thing.

There has been an mmo in development for like 3/4 years now based on the DOTA mechanics. http://www.armada-online.com/
personally LoL/HON/and DOTA are all stale to me. I mean I played lol 2 years ago, and they still don't have new maps. It's boring, it would be like a whole fps game where the playerbase was content with 1 map.
I dont' get it :/
Armada online kinda has the same issue but instead of the boring old Dota attack each other with heros and lines of creep, it's instead a full explorable mmo world with hourly battles over the border.
Once your in a border battle it's basically DOTA but with a twist. You know those Mobs off in nowhere? they are in the middle of all 3 lanes! and they have a boos at each mid. If you fight off the mid 1st you can build a sci station which increases the tech level of your creep.
also 2 points on each lane are mining bases, which send out a little npc to mine the nearby crystal. you can instead of fighting actually do some mining instead, which is pretty awesome, as mining increases your creep strength.
everything else is like dota, with the secret shops and combo items, but you keep your mmo gained equipment.
Also there is a 2nd map! GASP! where instead of two teams, it's 10v computer. Same deal but with 4 lanes going up and your on bottom. you need to hold the mining stations to build up your creep strenght, and level up and get all the upgrades you can as the waves get harder and harder.
lots of fun, Maybe I'll see you guys there sometime?

HoN is way better than LoL or any incarnation of currently soon to be released DotA like games. ---

There's a third map coming out soon. (Mind you, according to the PC gamer article, "soon" was supposed to have been almost a month ago and RIOT has said virtually nothing about it since then. So at this point we don't know when "soon" is, but what we do know is that the people beta testing the map absolutely love it.)

sadly, I'm talking about DOTA as a genre. It's been like 6 years. Only that other clone by EA that failed had cool maps. but other than that people have been playing the same map for like 8 years.

eve's combat maps havent changed at all.. Sure, some of them have large collideable object #1 (station), LCO #2(gate) or absolutely nothing..
Its not the map that makes these games, its the player interactions. Unfortunately, like said, a lot of the players are annoying little kids :\

Your using eve online as an example for map design? seriously?
I would be bored of Starcraft if there was only one map, I played DOTA for years, and I played Lol for about 8 months.
And then I snapped, and realized there is no reason for just simple thinking.
also yes lots of kids, but just ignore them.

yep, I am.
the entire game of lol/dota/hon is that its very skill based, and each game usually ends up rather different because different people play differently.
To me, its something to do between epic strategy (ai war), epic rpg (eve). it seems to fit nicely between there

I.. don't disagree with.. anything you said.
nor does it state how having 4-5 maps would in anyway effect that...

well, lol does have a second map, twisted treeline, for 3v3. Problem being, champs are balanced around a very limited thing - the single (old) dota map. to balance them against more maps would make the maps just minor variations at best.
id assume, its been a while since i did game balancing..

RIOT has a hard time at getting a good balance too. :[
I do want the new map, though. Even if the play style changes a bit depending on your team, your champ and the enemy team...there's only so many times I can play that 5v5 map before I get so bored of it.

well balancing a game of dota isnt much different than balancing eve.. it takes iterations to get right, and everyone will always see something as OP, even if its not (see: elementz tier list)
