I've read in dev threads since tyrannis came out that there was supposed to be some changes to how many times people are being sent to low sec for missions... including storylines and am wondering if anything is actually being done. I've been trying since tyrant came out (b4 that... but the prob is since that)to progress to higher level research agents thru gains in what everyone knows is the way a person has to do that.... npc corp standing gains and faction standings gains..... I've been trying for nearly 5 months and I've had all the npc corp standings to do that for sev of those months.... but now I've been stuck for nearly 8 weeks because the last 4 or 5 storyline offers IN A ROW have been in low sec... and *% (or whatever) gain in faction standings isn't worth it. I might be wrong but I think this issue was *supposed* to be resolved in one of the patches since tyrant. I petitioned it but the GM either started yesterday or the usual GM's handling this kind of thing are sick and he's filling in because one of the replies (besides him/her claiming it's a regular game mechanic... which it isn't... it's a well known problem since tyrannis) I got from him/her was this: Sent - 12/7/2010 11:49:00 AM I can confirm you even four times in a row is perfectly normal. Sorry for the bad news. Note you can refuse one mission offer every four hours without any standing penalty.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us again.
Best regards, GM Nicky Arikado EVE Online customer support I guess this person has no clue how storylines work because you can't decline a storyline and get another one in 4 hours. anyway enough of the ranting... IS this going to be addressed..... no wonder they are removing learning to encourage new players to stick around..... with 90% of the storylines I've received since tyrant came out going to low sec, who'd WANT too? who cares if they remove learning to encourage that when the new player either can't gain the standings they need to gain higher level agents (of any kind) or they can't make isk because their ships are being ganked in low sec?

Yes you can. I've done it when a storyline asked me to take 2,000m¦ of crap. Needless to say, I couldn't, and would take me ages and cost lots to be able to. Declined it thinking "Oh well, nevermind, another 16 to go", and logged on 2 hours later to an eve mail from same agent, new storyline mission.

I don¦t believe you.
Before i moved deep into highsec to avoid this s***, i declined several storylines. Never got a "new" one.

If all you want is standing so that you can use better research agents, then go do missions somewhere else. Pick a lower agent (heresy, I know) in an area farther from lowsec. If you keep using the same agent for missions, you'll get sent to the same storyline missions over and over again, and their destinations won't vary much. So go to a different area, work for a slightly lower quality agent, and get different storylines. Once you get your standing up, go back to your favorite agent and just decline the storylines that take you to lowsec.

No wonder the petition que takes so long if it is filled with total waste of space like the complaint you are referring to. If you dont like it, change to another system, there really is nothing wrong with the game sending you into low sec. The only problem here is you being too scared.

Very nicely put indeed.
If the storyline agent is near low sec (in 4 jumps radius give or take), he will send u to low sec, sooner or later.
In the case of encounter Storylines, you are almost never sent to low sec, so its gonna be a courier. If its "transaction data delivery" , do it in a shuttle. If its "special delivery" or 1 of those sucky new 8.000m3 courier storylines, do it just after DT and/or equip warp core stabs, cloaking device and try the AB + cloak trick on your industrial.

Dude, all you need to do is find a nice system that is a highsec dead end or at least 5 or 6 jumps from lowsec and work with an agent there.. Garanteed you won't get sent to lowsec on a storyline request, and if you"ve been grinding missions alot you should have a ton of Q15+ agents available to you giving you plenty to choose from.

Even if you're too intimidated by big, scary low sec, you can always pay someone to do your mission for you.

This is good advice, or you could HTFU!

I think being carebear is legitimate since this is a sandbox game.
But we are going beyond that, this is bordering total lack if initiative or will to deal with basic mechanics.
- Mission close to low sec in order to get the good side (high bounties etc)? Then deal with getting some low sec missions every now and them. There was a time when you could only do them OR lose standings. Now it's easier but still not enough?
- Mission close to low sec and not willing to deal with the downside above? Want total easy mode? Then do 15 missions in 0.5 sec and one in a L4 agent few jumps away. Pronto, you'll get the storyline in safe hi sec!
About those crying that storyline mission is too low income blah blah.
Storyline missions give the big value: standings. The rest is bonus.
- If I was a sissy, I'd gladly PAY someone to bring 8k of stuff in low sec for me, contract it back and complete the mission. The rewards of the mission per se are low enough that the "bonus" is tiny, the good part is that they last 1 week so it's possible to find someone to carry the stuff over there by that time.
- Since I am not a sissy, I'll notice how those 8k are composed of a stack of smaller stuff. Just expand cargo on a frigate, stuff a bit of the stuff and do several runs. Fear of the ebil gate camp? If you get caught with a frigate it's YOUR fault for not learning the 101 of the game, even a carebear has to learn to defend himself.
There's 1 gate camp out of 10 able to lock a frigate, they require SEBO inties and even then you won't find the average bored gate camper able to pull that out. In 0.0 is where such pilots are found, not in your average 0.5 => 0.4 camp.

Training for a blockade runner (with cloak) may help a lot. As there are no bubbles in low, chances that you are caught at a gate camp are very low.
Make some scouting BMs at gates and stations in low sec and some inst-warp undock BMs.
Learn how to use the directional scanner.
Learn about sesion timer & aggression timer.
Learn about the locals (prime time, ships, agressiveness).
With the above knowledge and a set of BMs you should be able to do 90% of the courier missions going into low.

I've gotten the "Ambassador's Ball" or whatever it's called twice in a row now from the same agent. A short jaunt to lo-sec, nothing a blockade runner can't handle, no big deal.
The rewards are miniscule, and the faction standing increase means nothing to me as I'm already at 9.93. Completing the last mission didn't change it at all, or maybe a mere few 1/100ths of a point.
I'll manipulate my level IV mission running to get the next storyline with a different agent, hopefully not every ambassador in Eve is putting on a party.
It does get annoying to complete so many Level IV missions and then get a crap storyline, but they all can't be 20+ million Isk implants.
As this is a new storyline and a whole lot of players are getting it, most of whom are annoyed, I wonder what CCP's point is in throwing it into the mix anyway.

With the isk you earned from missioning. If you don't want the standing, then blow off the mission. From an income for effort point of view, storylines usually aren't that great anyway.

They have to buy the tags and then go to the data center agent. I've done it, but in your case, it'll take you away from your missioning grounds. Again, isk for effort here. If instead you contracts a courier job to ship that payload, all you need to do is come by the delivery station with a shuttle and close the mission.
