Hi guys,
I'm new here, just joined so please excuse any ignorance. EVE seems pretty awesome but I'm plagued by one problem: periodic disconnection. Every couple of minutes or so I seem to lose the link to the server and get kicked out, only to have to rejoin again. Needless to say this is very frustrating, all the moreso since I can't pin it down. It does seem to happen with MSN messenger too though, my friends tell me that I keep randomly signing out and in again within a few seconds, as if its dropping the connection and then trying again. Could it be a ports thing?
I'm running XP SP2 and I'm on OneTel broadband (in the UK) using a PTI broadband modem and a D-Link router. Can anyone help? This is driving me crazy and, even worse, away from EVE.

Tim,
I had a similar problem when setting up a wireless router/network for my student flat.
I found that a cable my ISP had supplied me with was faulty - I replaced the cable and everything worked as normal.
If there are multiple computers connected via cables to your router then compare their connectivity using MSN or EVE - if they stay on and you don't then its more than likely the cable.

Hey,
Thanks for the idea; but as far as I can tell it's not the cable. One of my housemates has MSN that's a little dodgy too, although sadly their computer isn't up to spec for testing with EVE.
Any other ideas? Could it be a hardware problem with the router or modem? Or a problem with the broadband itself?
Any help appreciated,

It could be that the D-link and your ISP's modem don't get along. I know it sounds weird but I have had the same issue with my Linksys router that I bought to share my connection in the house and have it do the DHCP, however it didn't ever want to play nice with my ISP's Lucent DSL modem.
Try hooking up your PC straight up to the modem and play for a night, change around your cables your using just to make sure all is good if it works.
If not you might have ether a bad NIC (network card) or the modem might be losing the connection with your ISP. If your using win2k or XP go to the command line use
tracert -d xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
(x= ip number)
and trace route to a known IP address that you know will reply. You will get 3 pings per IP in the route and you may find where your losing your connection. It takes a few traces to find where it is because you have to wait till a failure comes up. When it does hit ctrl+C to cancel, use your up arrow on the keyboard to put the command back in, mash enter. After a few times of doing this you can track down the offening equipment.
I have done this many times and found just a few hops into my ISP one of thier Cisco routers is on the blink.

My household has the same issue buts its ever so wierd .
Periodicaly my dads pc and my moms pc seems to always seems to get server disconnected but my pc never has this problem. They stay connected to the net but never eve server. They crash usually once every 30 - 60 minutes alot of the times they lose the server together.
I find it wierd that i never get this problem
were connected using a belkin router. ISP is great no problems ( i installed it)
i used to work for Telewest.
DB strength is great, so its not my isp but something else either on the pc's or the server.
There pc's i built also it has same cards, cpu, MB everything all but one thing ... they use Norton 2005 where i use 2004. I know norton has a history with games for example. Emporer, battle for dune. Norton wont let that run.
Anyway this is mostly speculation...anyone have any idea's why this is happennig?

You can check your connection for packet loss using this utility:
Pingplotter
This does a continuous trace route to an IP address and will show you any packet loss over all of the hops to the target IP.
I used this to fault find on my ntl connection. It turned out that my upstream was bad so they replaced the modem.
edit: be sure to set the interval to 1 second to get an accurate graph.

Try running eve till it disconnects. Check you Event Viewer under System. Theres a limit of TCP/IP connections and if it exceeds 10, it has a tendency to disconnect things. Check and see if you have this problem, and if so, check the internet for a patch to kill the 10 connection limit.

Does anyone have an answer for this?
If my mouse and keyboard are inactive for a short time, I am "lost connection to server". This started right after the last patch BEFORE exodus. I thought perhaps it was something I had done with my firewall or something, so I went through everything and made sure all my time outs were very high.
Why does the game seem to log some people off after a period of inactivity? Also it is not consistent, sometimes I'll come back and I'm NOT logged off? Wierd. Game logs me off multiple times a day now, like if my hauler is slow moving toward and ore field I log off, if I sit in a station it logs off, if I am just not hitting the mouse or keyboard something times out.
Please, what could it be? Can we fix it? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks |

Connection to server lost,
20th time in one day.
Yeah its my PC. Opps, I changed out the PC entirely with a new one.
Oh must be my ISP, nope tried a 3rd PC from a dif. IP from a dif. city.
It's not me.
How can I continue to play this game if I am disconnected so often?
Does anyone at CCP care at all? |

Last night while playing, I was disconnected from the server EACH and EVERY hour on the hour (xx:03 to be exact). No other internet using app I'm running drops out at all.
I checked to make sure my ip isn't being recycled, and the leases are just fine. Called my isp to make sure they weren't doing anything funny, and they weren't. 
Hope it gets sorted soon.
