I am currently doing this mission:
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Recon_(1_of_3)_(Serpentis)_level_2
I am aware that I do not have to kill the spawn to complete the mission but I want to kill the spawn to gain their bounties and salvage in order to make more ISK.
Here is the fit I have tested and flown. It failed pretty miserably. I got about 30 seconds in the Deadspace before I had to warp out.
Rupture
[Low Slots] Damage Control I Small Armor Repairer I Armor Thermic Hardener I Armor Kinetic Hardener I Gyrostabilizer I
[Medium Slots] Ballistic Deflection Field I Heat Dissipation Field I Barton Reactor Capacitor Recharger I
[High Slots] 720mm Howitzer Artillery I 720mm Howitzer Artillery I 720mm Howitzer Artillery I 720mm Howitzer Artillery I Small Nosferatu I Small Nosferatu I
[No Rigs]
Now I have tried switching out some Medium Slots with Shield Extenders and the Gyrostabilizer with another small armor repairer. Both offered me tiny differences in the time I could fight.
I am pretty new to the Mission Running scene and I would like help and suggestions on how to better fit my ship.
Thanks for the help and insight!

You should be using a medium armor repairer, not small. See these for a couple examples:

I know, there's around 2 million or more in bounties on that mission! The bad news; I think you're gonna need a HAC or really well fit BC to kill the rats. I've tried in my Vexor, but I just didn't have the tank or skills to do it, got half their shields down on a 250k rat, but I was dying too fast.
My suggestion is keep your skills rolling and try it with a BC with a fat tank. DPS shouldn't be a problem, seems only 150 or so is needed to crack their tanks, but more the merrier! I'm running a Myrmidon right now(try a Hurricane with a fat armor tank) and think I could take them now with a dual MAR loadout.
I'm not sure if they are doable without at least an Assault Ship.

I used to do this mission in a Thorax and get all the NPCs. It took a while, but the money was good. I used to just fly straight down, past the gate and keep going (afterburner on in order to get some distance). Used 1 DCU II, 1 medium armour repairer II and 2 tech 2 active hardeners. Oh, and some tech 2 drones help.

Get in/out fast, or get stomped.
Passive Drake is a favorite on that one as well.
Same passive Drake will do well on part 3. _______________________________

Lowslots - Drop the Damage Control for a EANM. Swap the Small repper for a medium. Spend the money for an 'Accomodation' version, and upgrade the hardeners to N-type if you can afford it - they use less cap. While the gyro is good, until your cap skills are near perfect you may do better to have a cap power relay there.
Midslots - fit extra cap rechargers, not shield tank.
Hislots - swap the Nos for Standard missile launchers - better more damage that you are certain will apply, than a little cap refresh that probably won't work.
Rigs - 2x Cap Control Circuits will let you get your gyro back, and an aux nano pump will help the armour repper. --- Some days you are the pigeon, and some the statue. |

The key thing to this mission is that you should be done killing each spawn by the time the next one spawns. Tanking the whole thing is not the advised way of doing it, but is probably possible in a battlecruiser.
Maybe try autocannons? I don't think the rats spawn that far appart?
Or something like this:
[Rupture, PvE Armor] Medium Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II 10MN Afterburner II
720mm Howitzer Artillery II, EMP M 720mm Howitzer Artillery II, EMP M 720mm Howitzer Artillery II, EMP M 720mm Howitzer Artillery II, EMP M Small Nosferatu I Small Nosferatu I
Medium Ancillary Current Router I Medium Ancillary Current Router I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I

You really need a battlecruiser for this one. Drake with T2 tank manages it just fine, Drake with best named tank might have to warp once or twice in the second room. I imagine the Hurricane can handle it as well. If you can do it in a Rupture, make a video :)

Edited by: Obedient Slavegirl on 11/12/2010 21:21:39 For a young pilot like yourself the Rupture cruiser is just a small step before the Hurricane battlecruiser. Get one of those asap. More guns, more HP, more slots, more of everything.
Fit it with six 650's artilleries on the high slots and two assault missile launchers (those use light missiles, but launch them faster than a standard missile bay, to be used against frigates - I am guessing your drone skills are still low). For the medium and low slots and taking into account hurricane's versatility (it can armor tank AND shield tank equally good) it comes down on what skills u have in armor and shield tanking. Shield tanking will give u much more DPS though, cause of free low slots to fit gyrostabilizers and tracking enchancers.

I completed recon 1/3 (with killing the rats) with my Thorax for the first time today. Actually, it was easier than expected if you have enough time. Took me about an hour, but 2 Million bounty + 600k reward is not that bad for my 4M SP Character.
Fitting: Medium Inefficient Armor Rep, 2 Active Hardeners (Therm/kin), 1 passive hardener (nano), 10mn afterburner, drone link augmentor, cap/power stuff 4 x 250mm Compressed Coil Railgun 5 x Hobgoblin II
The trick was to just fly away from them all the time (afterburner on/off as required), let them follow you and kill them one by one. With my skills the railguns have a range of 42km with Tungsten charges, which combined with the drones kill a 280k bounty rat in a few minutes max. So, at least for me the "running away" while firing tactic worked out nicely.
