I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. Upon launching EVE the windows process rundll32.exe starts up and attempts to access the internet. The EVE client starts up normally if access is allowed but if the process is blocked then the client doesn't start up and rundll32.exe begins to use 50% of the CPU until it is terminated. If I try and launch the client again while the process is blocked and using 50% of the cpu (one of the cores that is) then the client starts normally.
I found this topic on the issue that may explain why it is doing that, however I'm not using the games explorer to launch the client. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1221918
This seems to be a recent issue that I'm having. I would rather have eve not start up rundll32.exe than to give the process internet access. Is there a way to fix this?

I can't see the problem with letting runddl32.exe to access the internet seeing that it's a Windows component. It's going to run regardless, preventing it from functioning will prevent it from terminating and cause it to use that many resources. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

rundll32 is a shell program that allows a DLL file to run as an EXE. Adobe Flash runs within rundll32, as do many other programs designed as DLL's. If you want to check what's within rundll32, then download Process Explorer, and mouse over it till it tells you.
Otherwise, I'd imagine it has something to do with Awesomium being used as the IGB =). ---

Except ... it's not going to run regardless. It isn't running now and it has only ever started up with EVE in the past couple of weeks.

Doesn't change the fact it's a Windows component and as Grez said, allows a .dll to run as an application.
Assuming the rundll32.exe that starts up is located in your system folders there isn't any problems with it. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

I'm not interested in whether or not the process is fine. I already knew that it was. I just want to find a way to get EVE to stop starting it up when it launches because it's a completely unnecessary nuisance. It didn't do it until just recently and EVE works fine when it's blocked and when it is terminated after the client is started anyway, except for the 50% processor load thing.

Oh hey, the latest patch fixed this ... or unintentionally did something that happened to fix it. Thanks CCP.
