I really need help on this mission because I resubbed my account after 4 years, my characters suck and I dont remember anything on fitting ships or combat!
I only got this mission because I have an R&D character who did one of the daily courier missions for an R&D agent but once completed this storyline mission popped up... I would really like to do it because it is so important, and faction standing increase would be nice!
But this character has just about ZERO fighting skills - he's all geared towards science & industry so it was a bit disappointing to get a combat mission.
But I do have another character (2nd account) who is geared towards combat. His skills are lousy too though - only about 10m SP.
Question 1)
So what I would like to do is use my combat character to complete this character's storlyin mission -- is this possible? How do I set this up? Does my weakling science character have to come along (and zip away or something as to not get shot at?)
Question 2)
For those of you with experience on this mission - how should I fit my combat character for this?
He has pretty lousy skills but I think it's enough to handle simpler L4's and I am hoping this is a simpler one. A quick summary of his skills are that he has just about all the drone skills learned but none are high enough for T2 drones yet. Gunnery skills are ok - geared towards railguns. Does have large hybrid turret at V but not the large railgun spec skill yet. I have medium railgun spec learned but its kind of low. Not much invested in missiles - highlight maybe torpedoes at L3. For ship skills has gall frig/cruiser at 5 and gall bs at 3 with less than a day to finish to L4. assault ships at 4 and heavy assault ships at 2.
As for ships I currently have available: Megathron Ishtar Myrmidon others probably have no place in L4 like assault frig
I do have good funds so I could buy say a Hyperion or Dominix if it would make it much easier.
So far I am thinking a Megathron sniping boat would probably be best bet due to my low skills.
I try finding loadouts on Battleclinic but its so frustrating because they seem to all be geared towards 100m SP characters =\

What system is it in? Suggestion: Remove the "new topic" button from everywhere apart from the list of topics section within a subforum.
That'd save those with chronic hand/eye coordination some face. |

Railgun sniping with an AB for kiting. Might take a while depending on how many enemies, but you should do it. At a good enough range, you won't need much tank. Take the drones too, elite frigs will be all over you.

It's high sec... I learned my lesson the other night doing my second L3 mission with my combat char in a sniping brutix fit in low sec when reds just warped right on top of me out of no where. Im so ignorant of this game that I didnt realize they could do that while I am in mission space :D

Snipe with the Megathron? Do you think it is ok to use T1 railguns (425mm I suppose?). Should I fit anything like stasis web for the elite frigs?

You can use two accounts to easily let your combat character do the mission. Just put the two characters into the same fleet (one character needs the leadership level 1 skill). Have the character accepting the mission fly to the mission gate entrance. You have an endless supply of rookie ships available if you take your pod any station without a ship there, so don't have to waste isk on a ship for the R&D character to get blown up in, though I think it's not an issue with shipyard theft (acceleration gate entrance). Your other character then right clicks the icon of the R&D character in the fleet window, or local chat window, under "fleet" there is an option to warp to the other character, and now your combat character can fly into the mission and kill everything. Your R&D character never has to enter the gate itself or the 2nd room, he just needs to guide the other character to the mission entrance.

I guess my main question is what faction is it against?
it isn't one of the missions I'd want to run with ****ty sp, but I don't think there are any scramblers, and the aggro can be split up pretty well.
and most of the fits are more like templates. yea its true that t2 guns would be best, but the fit works almost just as good with meta4 guns.

Edited by: Diana Rubri on 17/12/2010 18:41:26 If the two characters are on the same account. Accept missions, get into a shuttle or rookie ship, warp to entrance to spawn the site, bookmark site. Back to station, put bookmark in a can(cant remember if you can contract bm's directly but if not putting it in a can makes it possible), contract the can to your other alt. log on the combat alt. Prep the ship for the mission(check evesurvival or similar for setup). accept the contract and get the bm, warp to site and complete the mission, if theres any mission specific item, loot it and contract it back to teh r&d alt, log on the r&d alt and complete Diana

Or you can put the bookmark in your cargohold, warp to a planet, jettison, and then login with your combat character, have him warp to the planet and get the bookmark from the can. I do it all the time on my R&D characters Level IV combat storylines. Make sure the R&D character logs back in to pick up the mission objective afterward to take to the agent.

Aaah, Shipyard Theft... best lev 4 storyline, iskwise and funwise.
Your combat char flies Megathron, so I ll guess he is is Gallente space. I m gonna also guess that your R&D char got this storyline in Gallente space. If so, its vs Angel Cartel. 10m SP is more than enough for any lev 4 mission.
Mission consists of 2 rooms:
First room: NO auto aggro, but possible drone aggro. Meaning, piece of cake. Once u enter the first room, u ll see a gate. Move away from it, stop at 50km range. Aggro 1 BS and start killing. Finish with the first group, aggro the second etc etc.
Second room: Auto aggro, but no scrambling or webifing frigates. Kill the battleships first, to reduce incoming damage. Mission objective droped by last killed rat.
Now, for the fitting on that megathron:

You could warp to the mission spot in a pod with your Science-guy, rats don't shoot pods and then warp to your alt with combat-guy (requires being in same fleet).
Angel battleships like to get close up to do damage. Don't let them come within 15km or so. If you see bounties of 1.2 mil or so on battleships, those are about the hardest ones, do not over-aggro the room.
I have never done an Angels mission in a gallente ship so can't give advice on that (drakes/ravens and minmatar ships are great for that).

Edited by: Aureus on 20/12/2010 14:57:08 Thanks for all of your replies - I greatly appreciate it!
I completed it with a friend who brought his hyperion and basically tanked everything and took out the BS's while my fighter char took an Ishtar. And I was able to follow your advice and use my science guy just to warp to the first acceleration gate, have my alt and friend warp in and then he didnt even have to enter the combat zone - so that was nice.

Now, for the fitting on that megathron:
high slots: 7 425mm prototype I gauss guns
med slots: 3 cap rechargers, 1 100mn Afterburner.
low slots: 1 damage control, 2 armor explosive hardeners II, 2 armor kinetic hardeners II, 1 large armor repairer II, 1 energized regenerative nano membrane II
Rigs: 3 large capacitor control circuits.
Drones: 4 ogres, 5 hobgoblins
Sounds like something I could actually fit - thanks! One question - if I am doing mostly Serpentis missions would I need the 2 explosive hardeners? Wouldn't I want a thermal hardener or two instead?
What is the damage control unit for?
And I am new to the rigs/rigging - if I fit a rig can I swap it with another later? Or does the rig get lost?
And about heavy drones- admittedly my fighter char's drone skills suck especially when considering he is indeed Gallente. But I took his Ishtar and a bunch of Ogres and light drones and deployed the heavy drones to attack a BS and I was amazed at how quickly those heavy drones were killed off. All 5 in about 30-45 seconds. Then I had to use light drones which had a significantly better survival rate. His horrendous awful drone skills were level 1 for heavy and level 3 for scout drone. Barely have level 1 on the other "new" drone skills. Is it only because of lack of skill or is it also issue with how i deployed them/used them?
I am doing heavy investment in drone skills now. I used a neural remap and gave him max pts in memory and the remaining in perc to make maximum efficiency in training those skills and I'll be stuck with this training for a few months! But now I am hearing that drones suck against Sleepers which is something i was looking forward to doing... is that true?

- 2 thermal + 2 kinetic vs Serpentis/Guristas/Caldari/Mordus Legion - No hardeners but 4 energized adaptive nano membranes vs Mercenaries. (Always warp at 70km in those missions and snipe them) - 2 magnetic + 2 thermal vs Sansha/Amarr - 2 kinetic + 2 explosive vs Angels
What is the damage control unit for?
- DC is an active module and your last defence, adds a few points to resistances on shield and armor but mainly to hull (60%)
And I am new to the rigs/rigging - if I fit a rig can I swap it with another later? Or does the rig get lost?
- U have to destroy it to replace it with another.

- Use heavies vs battleships (big red crucifix in overview) cruisers and battlecruisers (medium size crucifix in overview)... Light vs frigates and destroyers (small crucifix).
- You will be seeing your drones becoming faster and stronger with each level of drone skills raised.
- Drones dont suck vs anything. Sleepers change their aggro and atack them, but if you r careful, u recall them in your drone bay and deploy them again... and again. Besides, Drone Durability skill increases their HP.
On the drone control window there is a little arrow on the top left corner, the drone settings menu. Set your drones on aggressive mode and they will be attacking whatever aggroes your ship. Check the option focus fire. Divide them in 2 groyps, 1 for the heavy and 1 for the light ones. IF YOU SEE A PLAYER CONTROLED SHIP ON YOUR OVERVIEW WHILE MISSIONING, IMMEDIATELY SET YOUR DRONES TO PASSIVE MODE. If he/she steals you, your drones will not attack and you will not give the looter rights to attack back.

Thanks for this very informative follow up!
I am a little confused on this last part - if someone comes and starts looting my kills then my drones if left aggressive will attack them? Does that also mean I can attack them directly? If that is the case isnt that a good thing so I smack that looting bastard? Or would I then be considered the aggressive one and lose sec status?

Yeah, drones might attack the looter and that gives him the opportunity to attack you(without getting Concorded). Looters are often baiters. They come back in a bigger ship fitted to gank you.
