First a technical point: I don't see any hair mesh. But then I have a low end system (NV 7600, shader quality to low or I die) and use linux (no other noticable problems though). Anybody else?
About the character creator: an awful lot of potential to be sure, and pretty things can be done. But as said elsewhere not enough customisation, on two front, one being maybe more important than the other:
-not enough cloth/accessories/tatoo/piercing/stuff. More will be added later I am sure, and there will be shops for that in ambulation I guess...
-It seems to me, quite counter-intuitively that there is not that much customisation of the basic face/body: no height (please tell me I just missed that one or that it will appear on the live version...), no overall face shape (longhish/ovalish etc...), nothing for the forehead... And the available handle often boil down to one or two linear axis per area. Body outside the face have one (slim/fat), one for the chin, 2 or 3 for the mouth... As I remember, oblivion character creator (yes I am outdated a bit) had dozens of sliders. So yes you could end up with ridiculous stuff as a down side but still... Same for the colors: why constrain to a few hand picked colors? put the full stuff, at least as an option for those who want to take the time. Don't tell me people don't dye their hair in space...
(btw I support the 'bring back sliders' initiative,at least as an option; it certainly is cleaner than unclear stretching of an unknown number of handles)
Because anyway, backstory wise, if nothing else we can order tailor made clones to download ourself into to look the way we like (or plain plastic surgery), so the bloodline dna purity ethnicity discussion is kinda moot imho. And a crowd of crazed eggers that routinely die plugged into giant starship are bound to have 'varied looks' bordering to madeness/ridiculous/whatever-is-on-my-mind-today: a space station is not outside an office at 5pm (a la Mos Eisley cantina or Bladerunner). So just let people free, we can't do much worse/better than harajuku/akihabara in tokyo anyway...
Anyway just my 2 cents, maybe completely moot if what we test is just a gimped version of the full stff, but still. Overall a great tool, looking forward to it going live...
