I'm just curious where the bounty hunters are. I read the threads somewhat regulary and I see alot from the pirates, but not much from the bounty hunters. Am I missing something or are there just not alot of bounty hunters out there? I was thinking of going pirate but if there are not alot of bounty hunters maybe I will go that way instead. Being a pirate sounds fun, but then again so does being a bounty hunter

I haven't figured out what the method of tracking the pirates is supposed to be.

I am not sure, but I thought there was a way to ask an NPC where you could find someone. But then again maybe I am wrong. If there isn't a way then they should put in some kind of tracking or networking skill for the bounty hunters of eve.

Ah, it's just not feasible. If being a pirate is unprofitable, bounty hunting is way way worse. For starters, pods are nigh impossible to catch. Secondly, anyone with a halfway decent bounty rarely travels alone through where they can be caught.

Well that certainly puts a damper on things, however I think I still might give it a try. Worse comes to worse I get blown up several times and resort to pirating. But I might get lucky and catch a few people unawares and alone. At least now I understand why there are so few if any bounty hunters out there.

Unless your at war with them or in 0.0 space you take sec hits the same as a pirate does, eventually you will have the same sec rating and possibly a bounty yourself, making you unmistakable from a pirate.
Bad profession, quite possibly the single most hardest to follow, esp solo. __________________________________________

I'm a bounty hunter.. sortof..
I just don't dedicate myself to it enough, don't feel like corp hopping and lying all the time to score the nice fat bounties.

So even if someone has a bounty on their head if I kill them to collect the bounty then I take a security hit too? Assuming I am in secure space, well that sucks. Still with 0.0 space being pretty much open season then perhaps I can still pull it off. Still like you said trying to go it solo will be extremely rough since they will all have friends or corps to back them up and I will be alone. Food for thought to be sure.
Tyrrax: Could you please explain what you mean by corp hopping and having to lie all of the time? Does being a bounty hunter make it that hard to find a corp?

Corps get suspicious of recruits with a big long list of previous ones i imagine. That's my take on the matter anyways although i could be wrong.

You can shoot at corpmates in empire, without suffering sec hits and without response of Concord.

The amount of work required in locating and travelling to the pirate just to watch them dock/safespot/log for an uncertain gain doesn't really make bounty hunting an appealing choice of career.
Better to score an opportunistic kill if one presents itself and do something more rewarding in game in the meantime.

Corp hopping ! :
Corp hopping is where a person will join a corp that has people with big bountys in befriend them, hunt with them and pod them on the first oppurtunity ! Then move to another corp and repeat ! hence getting big bountys without the sec hit !
Hope this helps

bounty hunting just isnt a viable profession as of yet in eve since you DO take security hits for attacking anyone with a security status of greater then -5.0 so until they add bounty hunter licenses it just wont be a good profession anyone will really be interested in. Now if they were to introduce a way that a bounty hunter could actually collect a bounty on a player without taking a hit it would be nice but it would most likely be too easy to exploit. ----------------- *Decloaks and starts blasting your sig* Applesauce Biotch

I started off this game as a bounty hunter/pirate hunter....
it doesnt work... the risks are too hi for the reward...
the only way to get ppls bounties is to pod them, so u need more than 1 guy, say maybe a frig with sensor boosters to get the pod, even then its a struggle...
its also not unusal that the bounty hunter becomes the hunted, trust me on that .
u can take up contracts on ppl, IE, i wasnt some1 dead, i pay u to kill him.
also remember most pirates will have tons of skill points in PVP..
hunting pirates is just for fun, not really a job.
d solo.

tbh most "bounty-hunters" wind up going pirate anyways... if such a thing as pirates exist.
I'm technically a pirate, but I keep my sec status > 0 so no one can place a bounty.
And remember, one man's pirate is another man's pod liberator!

I got 19 million bounty the other day, I gave 10 of it to the guy who scramed the pod though even though I was only a few micro seconds behind with the scram. _ _ How many pilots does it take to wire a Flux Capacitor? 3, 1 to wire it and 2 to talk about how the old one was better. |

There are a few out there... It's just... those are two ways for PvP and as you can kill everyone you want as a pirate, most people take that way. As a bountyhunter you don't really have "noob-targets". ---------------------

Corp hopping = "play" fighting with your own corp mates, then blowing them up and killing their pod for the bounties.
omg, why didn't I think of this earlier...

Thanks a lot for the information guys and gals. I think being a bounty hunter will be fun, but I will also have another profession on the side. I want to get into some good PVP as soon as I am skilled enough. As far as killing the pods wouldnĘt a smart bomb work?? But with that method I am not sure if you would drop the smart bomb for the deathblow on the ship OR right after you deliver the deathblow. Could anyone educate me on that?? Also that corp hopping tactic is a brilliant idea. Thanks again everyone.

Mercenary corps might offer what you are looking for. We take on wars for fun and profit :) We make good money at it too, assuming that a contract isn't broken or you don't lose ships all the time. Check the merc thread for prospective corporations to join. -----------------------------------------------
