After seeing them mentioned in 5 threads already this morning - what do macro magnates actually do ? What makes the magnate ship special ? What quality makes it useful ?

run courier missions over and over. Pretty sure they have the best speed/cargo per isk of frigs. Plus most macro couriers are on trials they can't use industrials. So hundreds of magnate bots just run all over doing low level courier missions all day.

Yes we all know this already. But what are the rewards for using them that way? As far as I know trial accounts can't send isk so any made with them is stuck with the account unless it is activated.

Then what are they trading to sell? And what is that item(s) worth? Until we answer that question then they might as well be background scenery as far as effecting the game is concerned. Which brings up a whole other angle. What if its ccp using its new thin clients to simulate server activity and bump up the daily active player count to cover all these supposed bitter vets leaving the game? I mean they could be using them to fly any ship and are just doing the magnate thing to annoy the bot ragers.

They can get about a 660 Cargo, 1009 riged and align at a good speed.
The Macro's accept Lvl 1 Transport Missions and run the route warping to 0. They do it all day long and rake up ISK and LP for 14 days.
The owner then has it buy something expensive and I asumes jetisons it so no trade windows are opened. Main picks it up and sells it.
Profit W/O paying for an account.

They can probably just buy something extremely overpriced from the market, the owner can set up such sell orders and claim he's scamming.
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

What do yo think all those 1 million isk/unit of Trit that are always on the market are about? That's where the cash transfer goes.
Not too sure if Trial accounts can buy from the LP store but there is that option as well. Just dump the loot in a can at a safe spot and pick up with the seller account (most likely stolen if it is an isk seller). You won't get the best isk/time ratio from the low level items but you can produce and move a lot of them very quickly.
Those are the obvious ways to transfer money from trial bots. There are less obvious ones that I won't relate as they make it harder to trace where the illicit isk is going.

And for anyone interested in economics, too much of this can actually drive up the price of an item. Google "ramping", or its opposite "bear raids", and you will see what I am talking about. It probably a lot easier to do this in EVE than it is IRL, simply because of the amount of goods changing hands.
Not really adding much to the conversation, it just struck me as I was reading that.

just look around in the right high-sec systems and you will find password protected GSCs anchored on many planets.
If you scan them they are full of implants.
(too lazy to dig up my old posts but some time on eve-search should give you at least one system name and screenshots)

Those cans have 500,000 HP.
Can I salvage the 100+ Tempest you need to take it down after Condord is done.

GSC really should be for corps only to prevent spamming, it takes you like what a few hours to train to anchor them if that. I was all for keeping NPC corps the same a few months back but now I understand everyone elses frustration at them. So many reasons why they should be given another nerf. Sure you don't want to be in a corp so make your own.

It also increases their standings so that they can upgrade to running level 4 courier missions with macro bestowers if the owner chooses to. ---

That leves muh more obvious logs, I suppose... plus you don't want to be caught scamming only... trial characters that online 23.5/7 (such dedication! ), and, obviously, giving all earned isk away for free to some stranger who asks nicely - because EVE is full of nice and helpful people |

They use the magnatic force. Has something to do with ship spinning, but scientists are still tackled in a massive argue how that all works together.

Edited by: Othran on 20/12/2010 13:40:52 Its one of the cleverer bot ideas IMHO.
There are so many of these things in low-sec that hardly anyone shoots at them now. What's the point? People did at first but its endemic now so they just ignore them.

If two Magnates collide head-on they are thrown apart at great speed by Magnatic forces. If one hits the other from behind, they get stuck together and are very difficult to prise apart. Sometimes, the Magnates that come together in this way turn into Gold and Silver Magnates...
In some systems you can find Fridge Magnates stuck on the sides of stations, often carrying a witty slogan, or holding some reminders like "Dave, buy more cheese", and "Remember to tell Hal to leave the pod-bay doors open next time."
Some of the more manly Pod-pilots have a thing called Animal Magnatism, however, for some it is just an Anathema. |

Whats funny is the you and the other poster both picked the tinfoil that would make sense from ccp's standpoint and supposedly the players too and left the one about ccp shennanigans buffing active server population counts alone.
