Being Gallente running I solo level 4 missions in a Kronos. Reading forums the general consensus is that rails aren't the best at damage dealing. I've now got max learning skills to redistribute so perhaps it's time to switch to another race. My Gallente skills are based on rails, armour tanking and drones. Is moving to Caldari and training missiles or Minmatar and training Projectiles worthwhile for mission running? Which is better?

Might consider moving to Amarr space and training for lasers and Amarr if for no other reason than it makes the most of your armor tanking skills. Minmatar would work too. I would say try and stick to guns if possible, as you have already invested time in gunnery support for your rails.
I would also look at other options other than moving to Caldari space, it's by far the most crowded and you can still make a killing elsewhere.

Given the fact that you've already got gunnery skills I wouldn't train Caldari. The Machariel is considered one of the better mission running ships at the moment. Since it is Angel it's also the most compatible with your current skill set.
If it's only for mission running and you'd rather be training something else for PvP or whatever I wouldn't bother cross training though.

If you have the ISK, maybe look into training for a Macherial. From what I have seen they are a superb mission running ship. |

The only marauder that I haven't flown on missions is the Kronos specifically because rails/blasters are so broken balance-wise.
My advice would be to train either for Golem (easy, straight-forward) or Vargur (T2 AC's are pretty impressive now that you have the choice of 3 damage types without sacrificing DPS (and kinetic if you use Barrage)).
I didn't mind the Paladin, but Em/therm only ammo can be a pain in the ass against Angels and Guristas.
As to "better"... I'd say the Golem. It's the mission runner as you get all 4 damage types and don't have to worry about any ewar except ECM (and I have no sympathy for people that insist on punishing themselves by running missions in Caldari space). But that said, I'm currently flying Vargur. :P

As you have armor tanking and gunnery skills, I would strongly urge you to cross train for Amarr and LAZORZ.

Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't consider the Machariel and may give it a go. It is expensive though and some forums suggest sheild tanking would be better. Amarr would fit my skills better if I were to stick with armour tanking. The Golem is always mentioned too. As always in EVE there's no single path to choose.

I was in the same position as you a while ago. I've since trained my amarr ship skills (up to bs 5) along with caldari for the nightmare. The biggest slog was t2 large lasers, but you'l have that with any t2 weapons system. For someone who's armour, gun and drone specced, amarr strikes me as the logical second race to train.
