Edited by: Wesun on 20/12/2010 21:59:46 Am a returning player so sort of know how the game works - inclusing PvP. Can anyone tell me what faction warfare is like? What size fleets / types of ships / how easy is it to find a good fight?
Cheers

OK, not sure if that was posted in the wrong thread by mistake or was an attempt at humour but thanks for your time.

I joined for a while and found it difficult to use... but that was in the first months of launch.
Some people love it, others hate it. Give it a try, you can leave at any time.

Fw can still be fun if you get into the right corp so you can have some reliable gang action or just like to go balling around solo in rifters and gank t1 cruisers or bc. Plus the level 4 fw missions are some of the best isk in the game for the effort and risk involved.

Get into one of the clique FW corps - on any side - and enjoy station games, blobbing and counter-blobbing, and mind-numbing tedium of capping plexes. Marvel at the smack-talk, childish innuendo, and back-stabbing.
It's essentially Empire wars moved to low-sec...
Best idea is to run some FW missions for a week, rake in the LP, buy faction ships, sell on market for nice ISK, leave. Go do something else. Rejoin when you need more ISK. |

FW has a little of everything in it (at least, from what I can see in the Amarr-Minmitar areas).
Solo is still viable, if a bit hard to find. Small roaming gangs (5 to 15) are quite common. Large fleets (20+) happen with some frequency. Capital hotdrops occur from time to time (be not afraid of them, just kill the support gang/fleet and then take them out). Supercarriers have been making some appearances... and it has been attracting the attention of "local" 0.0 alliances looking for a quick gank.
As far as ships go... mobile DPS is the style of choice in FW. So Minmitar and "nano-fit" ships are quite common. With good fights... ehh... it happens but not as often as would preferred. All sides try to "one-up" each other and get an edge before engaging (i.e. get 2:1 odds, get logis, put a capital on standby, ECM, etc, etc).
Best advice I can get is attach yourself to a "decent enough" corp, get to know the "regulars" within certain timezones, and show that you are not "dangerously incompetent" (as most of the militia rank-and-file is). Eventually you'll get noticed and brought in to one of the more "veteran" corps of FW. _______________________
