For a change of pace, how 'bout a thread with silly ideas to buff mining!
Rules- must not significantly impact actual mining capacity or profitability (unless really, really, laughably, obviously-not-even-a-little-bit-serious silly). Here's mine:
Capital Astroid tractor beam- equipable by Orca/Rorq. 50 m/s, tractors astroids. When industrial core is active on Rorq, can hurl Veld roids at planets eliminating all colonies on them.

The best way to boost mining is to make the demand for minerals go up. This can happen by making more people PVP more often. As such, the ability to buy all the modules/rigs/ammo/drones from a saved fitting and have the ship auto assembled for you would be a great boon to mining.

New mining ops would be fleets of Orca's & Rorq's messing with bot miners.

Do you want a silly idea that will buff mining? Stop buffing mining. Buff WAR. Buff the tools of war. Buff ways to fight. Buff things to fight over. Mining is easy enough and safe enough that there are too many players producing too much product for it to be profitable. Demand for minerals is tied directly to players making things to kill each other with and blowing them up. Since the insurance nerf, that only happens when players fail at PvE, skill up to a new toy, or during PvP. Bigger & better tools to mine with and better ways to mine will only add more surplus to the market and drive the price down. The sound of players killing each other should be music to a miner's ears.
Want another way to buff mining? Make it harder. Make it more dangerous. Make it more involving. When all it takes for someone to run 5 Hulks and Orca is an egg timer and a good movie, how profitable do you think it's ever going to be? If mining was something that actually involved a player's continuous attention, those semi-attended players wouldn't be able to drive down YOUR profits.
Edit: Reread OP & actually finished the last line...

Mining is replaced by pinball. You play a pinball game, and every point you score is instead ore that you mine.
Alternative:
Mining is replaced by frozen bubble. Each bubble you shoot down becomes ore in your hold.
Alternative to the alternative:
Mining is replaced by Space Invaders.
Each level, you defend your asteroid from invaders, and if you complete a level that asteroid becomes ore in your cargo hold. Could be timing-based: the longer you defend the asteroid, the more time the miners have to mine stuff for you.
Wing Commander issues the following fleet commands: "Drop down! Reverse direction! Move faster!"

I had a hard time envisioning Pac-Man in a spaceship.
For the options I did offer, I can at least picture it as an eve-adaptation wherein you use your actual ship. the ship fights the space invaders, the ship rams into stuff as the pinball, the ship shoots the bubbles and scoops them up.
I suppose I can somewhat picture a ship scooping up little pac-man-dots, but I can't really picture a maze that would be navigable by manual ship steering mechanics that would also be fun.
The key is that you really have to avoid fine-tuned movements with eve. I figured space-pinball might work mainly because pinball usually is characterized by very crude movements that aim at a general goal, followed by a lot of uncontrolled bouncing.

Each asteroid gets a letter, and you have to type in the words you can spell. The more words you spell during a cycle, the more ore you get.
Have the letters as a texture applied to the spinning, moving, bumpy roids, and this will make all captcha proponents happy too.

In order to mine asteroids, you first use the survey scanner. When surveyed, the rocks in the belt will - one by one - glow a different colour and ring out a particular note. You then have to sing that note in order to lock the asteroid to mine it. As you mine more rocks, the sequence of notes you have to sing becomes longer and faster.

have special rats that visit only grav sites and sometimes belts, that drop interesting books to read, possibilities could be some of the Eve chronicles.
A new type of laser, one that can be used on asteroids, when you shoot them, they split into smaller asteroids which start moving, if you get hit by one, it does damage, but whenever you shoot one, it also leaves behind some 'asteroid debris', which can be tractored by an orca and looted for ore. ofcourse the range of this special laser is 500m optimal and 100m falloff, so you have to get close to the roids to shoot them. You could get a fleet of frigates all equipped with these and MWDs, shooting asteroids, while an orca sits back at a distance and scoops up all the debris.
Or a new mining ship, the Pervasive Asteroid Catcher, that has a huuge maw at the front, and a special 'asteroid grinder' a device that can mine HUGE amounts of M3, but has a range of 50M, ofc this ship is also slow as ****, so you slowly fly from asteroid to asteroid while scooping up all the rocks with it.

How about a cargo container that teleports ore back to the station every 5 minutes. It also needs to be checked every 5 minutes to make sure it doesn't blow up.
When it blows up it kills everybody in the system and destroys all the stargates. Then it creates a black hole and starts sucking in other systems in a 7 system radius. After it is done sucking them up..
A white hole appears in jita and dumps the blob of matter right in front of jita 4-4 creating considerable amounts of lag.

running with the black hole idea above...
A new kind of Bomb.. the Black Hole Bomb. It can't be dropped near 'active structures', aka POSses, starbases and the like, but can be dropped near asteroids, or an unpowered POS.
You drop it somewhere, then it begins pulsing, like a 15km smartbomb, pulling everything in the radius towards it like a massive tractor beam. Anything that gets in 50 meter range is automagicly absorbed into it, ships, rocks, etc. After about a minute of this, it will explode, dealing a truckload of damage to anything in the 15km radius, doing all damage types, and leaves behind a 'Giant Mass Conglomerate'. This is an asteroid that contains all the minerals of everything it has absorbed. Asteroids, ships, their modules, cargo etc. are all converted into their base minerals, and become part of the pile inside it. Mining from this conglomerate does not give ore, but your mining amount of m3 worth of minerals, gas, moongoo, or whatever other base material was sucked up by the bomb, the amounts of each relative to howmuch of said product is inside( or possibly random amounts of each, depending on the amount inside for chance)

The reason for this is because if you destroy all the belt... Ore prices will go up!!
Oh and said nukes can be sold for about 100k isk, and they can also be used on Jita 4-4 which will destroy the station and anybody in system..... aswell as all the items inside it.

I'm just FULL of silly ideas today...
Maybe, whenever someone starts mining an asteroid for the first time ( since DT ) or if it hasn't been mined for X amount of time, let there be a chance that it's not a regular asteroid, but an infested one. Infested with Rogue Drones that is. Up until the moment it's mined, it looks like a regular one ofc, but as soon as an infested asteroid is mined, it will implode, as there aren't really any minerals inside it ( just sensor ghosts made by the Ebil drones ), and several rogue drones appear where the asteroid was, ready to attack. Similar to a regular rat spawn, but slightly tougher, and ofc with the chance of having a sentient among them etc. etc.

Pod pilots are pledging allegiance to Master Kuvakei. How 'bout pod pilots are PART of Incursions DURING Hulkageddon!! Mothership hops into high-sec w/ 20 pod pilots, everybody undocks, NPCs defend Mothership and pod pilots go roaming for Hulks! Make the pod pilots work by NPC rules for the one ship they come in with- no CONCORD intervention on attacks in high-sec and any player can engage them at any time w/o standings hits. The gang can roam with impunity until players manage to kill it!
'Course, getting in on it would instantly set your sec status to -10... ;)
