Edited by: Phony v2 on 23/12/2010 07:47:18 I was recently wondering about smuggling with the help of transport ships ( IE Blockade runners and deep space transports). I was wondering if I wanted to transport say the usable boosters like a blue pill booster through hi-sec, would I be able to do that with one of those ships? Like a bustard or crane (caldari transport ships).
My friend said that it doesn't work and the customs agents always caught him even when he only had 1 item of a booster in his hold. I really just want a diffinitive answer on how this works.
How does smuggling work, and what ships does it work with? Because I've heard so many different things. |

You'll get caught using anything that isn't fast/agile. The only thing that isn't scanned is an orca's corp hangar.

Someone once told me you can use garbage to fill your cargo up and mask the illegal goods. They said it was 33-66% illegal to garbage... but i tested it out and it doesn't work... is there no sure-way to beat the customs other than an Orca?

Edited by: Sjugar on 23/12/2010 09:49:53 Would a secure container put in a courier contract work? With the double wrap, normal player ship scanners can only scan through 1 layer of container and will scan through the courier wrap but not through the container inside the courier wrap.
I don't know if this works for npc scanners though. (And I don't know if you can put illegal goods in containers.)

Buy a secure container, put stuff in secure container. Then make a courier contract for that secure container to an alt. Your alt will now get a transport package. Which needs to be transported. In that package is the container. Now you put that package in a ship and go deliver it.
(but as I said, I don't know if illegal goods can go into a container.)

Yeah I've got a container of narcotics and other stuff I'd get a slapped wrist for in one of the stations I use.
I've already tried narcotics in an unsecure container in a ship and that didn't work. I like the courier contract idea though.
Makes me wonder though... can you put a contract package in a container? That would make it a secure container inside a courier contract wrapper... inside a secure container.
Or would the outside container recognise the courier item to include it's own container and deny it? Never mind the container risking an implosion... my brain might go the same way trying to follow this.
Worth a try.

Bahahahahah! oh man that was good... So no putting a wrapped container inside a... container... right?
But has anyone tried moving the single-wrapped single-container with narcotics inside yet? I wanna try it later tonight.

You cannot make courier contracts containing any contraband items. So all this discussion about multi-wrapping in containers will not work.
If you have contraband in your cargohold, there is a random chance you will be caught at a stargate. The odds seem to be inversely proportional to the traffic at the stargate. (If it is a busy gate, you can probably get through. Less traffic means you are more likely to get scanned.)
Also, the longer you sit at a gate, the more chance you will be scanned. If you are in a small fast ship, you can easily get away with the goods before the police web and scramble you, but you will still get a fine and standings loss if they even see you.
So if this is a one time thing and you don't mind a few small ticks against your standings, haul your stuff in a frigate. If you are going to make a living out of it, get an orca.

Edited by: Damassys Kadesh on 23/12/2010 23:25:43 Damnitt. That is so terrible... has anyone heard of this garbage mechanic? Is it something that has changed over time? I tried it and it seemed to have no effect on being caught or not. However, there was an anomaly with containers and garbage that I found (although garbage may be irrelevant in this case):
I filled my cargo with garbage and one pill (Buzzard). Got caught right away and they confiscated the pill. Then I tried again with one small container filled with garbage and one pill, as well as the remaining cargo space fill with garbage. Still go caught right away BUT even though I accepted to turn over the goods to them, the pill stayed in my cargo (within the small container).
This still kills standings though... is there no way to trick the mechanics with contracts or something else? I think it's worth experimenting, because Orca-only transport is depressing.

The thing about filling your hold with garbage is probably a reference to an idea that used to float around on the forum. This was supposed to be a tactic to fool gate gankers.
The scenario was that you would fill your badger (or whatever) up with meta 0 junk, metal scraps, bits of trit, "garbage" etc and put a single valuable item in so that any ship scanner would be so overwhelmed / confused by the valueless rubbish that they wouldn't spot the one valuable item.
Personally I wouldn't recommend doing this.

Ah, that makes sense.
Is that it then? when I got caught it seemed to be when I clicked Jump... this would mean that the ship choice is completely irrelevant, including cloakies and the fastest, most agile ship possible.
Any other thoughts?

Being cloaked prevents you from being scanned by customs officers. So a blockade runner, covops, even a cloak + MWD instawarp ship (I wouldn't recommend the last one) can smuggle contraband.
I used to move boosters and never got caught in a blockade runner.

what u r going to have do is avoid all gates period, that means u r going to have covert jump in where u need to go. get a buddy, friend, corp mate, or a alt to light a cyno for u.

I answered this question in the 3rd post and apparently no one can read.

My god are you serious? You can't light cynos in highsec and bypassing gates in low/null is a nonissue since customs are only in highsec.
The responses in this thread are lol. Orca corp hangar is the only guaranteed 100% full proof way. Even with a fast aligning covops you still run a small risk. There are no tricks other then that.
