First off, yes i'm a new player to this game so please forgive me if what i'm about to say is either incorrect or just stupid.
I was reading some forum posts and discovered that the max number of drones you could have in space at one point was 10 but this got reduced to 5 as it was causing lag. I also found out about time dilation and how it slows down time as it were to help reduce lag in game especially with missiles going everywhere.
As ccp seem to be redoing all the ships would it be a good idea to give drone boats the ability to launch more drones at the cost of some other ability or to introduce a new class of ship or faction version of the ship now that lag shouldn't be much of an issue with time dilation?

While I do like the idea of escort carriers as a new class of ship and approve of the +1 drone per level I was thinking more of just giving say the Dominix the ability to launch 10 light drones, 8 medium drones and 7 heavy/sentries out the box but reduce the 10% dama |

A few things here:
Time dilation (heretofore referred to as TIDI) is not something that should be encouraged. TIDI, although an amazing piece of technology, and something that the devs should be very proud of, is not something that should encourage laggy situations.
The reasoning "We have TIDI, so we can do things that cause a lot of server lag" is actually opposite of what the devs are currently trying to do.
The devs' current stance is that "We have TIDI. The game isn't crashing. Now lets figure out how to make TIDI stop coming on. Currently, 90% of the time its on is for mass fleet jumps, or undocks, and in huge battles 600+
Allowing 1500 battleships on a grid (somethign that already usually causes 10% TIDI) to now deploy double the number of drones, with the server now monitoring double the number of positions, double the number of AI movements, double the number of damage requests, and double the number of drone-deaths, pushes that 10% TIDI back into game-breaking territory.
This is not to mention the people that have brackets on, it will cause client lag (in addition to server lag) and would probably melt anybody's computer who accidentally clicks the "drone models" box (we've all done it :P).
In short; this won't happen, so there's no point in lobbying for it. This post also says nothing of the gameplay implications keep in mind. |
