Hello Everyone
It is that time of year again. I will be hosting the 4th annual Azia's Pub Quiz on New Years Eve from 1900 GMT. This is a mammoth quiz with 200 questions. There is a small entrance fee of 1,000,000 ISK which is payable to me, please include the reason "entrance fee". All the entrance fees are redirected straight into the prize pot. The more players, the bigger the prize value. To take part please join channel eve-cem and send your entrance fee to me.
Prizes In addition to the prize pot of 200,000,000 ISK the top scoring pilots will win:
- PLEX
- Gila
The prizes will be distributed via contracts when I have sobered up.
Rules
- There are 200 questions
- Each question is worth a minimum of 1,000,000 ISK
- The first correct answer on my screen is the winner of that question
- All prizes will be distributed via the contracts system after the event
- The answer on my sheet is correct regardless of what Wikipedia says
- Arguments will result is disqualification
- Logs of the event will be provided upon request
- No Google!
You may join in at any point during the evening, providing you have paid your entrance fee, however the later you join the harder it will be for you to aim for the top prizes.

One of the best trivia contests I ever did was Azia's NYE quiz two years ago. If anyone out there is on a weird TZ or feeling antisocial on NYE, this is a great way to spend some time and win some money.
That said, prohibiting Google seems a completely unattainable goal on this one. Someone who knows the answer themselves will always be faster than Google, but for the ones nobody knows offhand, Google makes the quiz go way faster than no-Google.

This. The no google rule is pointless if you can't enforce it. It will just mean that dishonest competitors will win more than the honest ones. And do you really want to slow down a 200 question quiz more than necessary? It would be better to have like a 5-10 second time limit to answer questions. That would limit google usability without the drawback to honest participants.

Yes the google rule in unenforcable, but If someone knows the answer, they will have typed it in long before anyone can get a propper answer from a web search, if nobody knows the propper answer then people "cheating" will just speed it up a bit, I'm not sure why that would slow proceedings down at all.

With reference to the Google rule I am relying on the honesty of the players to enforce it.
On another note I have been given a Cynabal as a prize. The prizes have been shuffled about as a result.

Edited by: Che Biko on 29/12/2010 15:21:00 Great, so you don't care that the nice guys finish last. Well I'm an honest guy, and I just feel discouraged participating by guys that suddenly get the answer after 30 seconds of "thought". I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but you failed to either adress our con-arguments/alternatives or provide pro-arguments.

Massive thanks to Zoukanix who has kindly donated 500m ISK to the prize fund. This brings the total cash prize up to 700,000,000 ISK.

Great fun Azia, thanks for running this again. It's enough reason to keep my pod active all by itself (the trivia and commeraderie, not the pod). Looking forward to the next one! Rand
