I think you got something wrong.
In the good old days, there was no PLEX, no ice miners, no expansions, low amount of content, you could AP through 0.0 without being killed. You could kill people in highsec and tank concord.
Anyway, failtroll...post with your main weakling. --------------------------------------

Can the decent americans please post more again!
(BTW, the only good old days were went space felt epic and you didn't see anyone in low sec.....but then there was none of the various exciting things we can do now. Oh and DJ Doby on EVE radio!)

You would be in your sniping tempest, You would have a cup of tea in one hand and in the other your mouse, you would instalock anything that jumped in and do godknowshowmuchalphadamage to it, it would blow up and you would virtually high-five your buddy that would be next to you in his tempest, you would both laugh without fear of being blobbed at any second. Those, where the good old days.

basically what it comes down to - if you like hardcore PvP, the old days were better. If you like soft PvP and carebearing - the new EVE is the best.
Since majority of players are soft or carebearish, they wouldn't understand why old days were better.

In my opinion, there was a time where Eve was fun to play and not a choir that borderlines on work.
While players were competitive then, today's group seem to be obsessed with having to win (or twist a win to their favor) with any means possible. Add how min / maxers _have_ to have this, this, and that before being competitive while CCP seems to be changing to cater to this group; add how running bots to perform nearly any (if not all) tasks in the game; add how people feel immune behind the veil of internet animosity = a shallow game with potentially shallower people playing hardcore.
Just my opinion, of course.
I agree on that with you.

What you describe is simply human nature and has nothing to do with the game itself. The playerbase did change over the years - it got bigger, it got dumber - as CCP lowered the bar and made things "easier".
If you look at any major game, you'd notice how quickly community maturity level degrades as the game becomes more popular. Just look at Blizzard forums.

Just silouetting RL humanity. Just a smaller version of our Earth is all.
Look around, You can see it in RL. Because of the size of the community such as Eve you just ses a faster version of our evolution.
Unfortunately it's just a natural cylce. =) WE ARE ALL DOOMED!!

C'mon, nobody ever did exploration in the good old days? When it *was* actually a real challenge to get them sigs? When you pulled allnighters just scanning down sites? I am quite disapointed... it's like if that part of eve had been lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to DIE!!! ***** -- 'Canari' |

Best days of EvE were definitely the first few years.
Getting a battleship was difficult. Had to mine the minerals, transport them to a station for a friendly person to build it. Took a few weeks to get into.
Taking it into low sec and fighting in it, winning a couple of fights without 50 people showing up to 'defend' the target, and then travelling out to 0.0 (great wildlands). No bubbles, hotdrops or massive gangs.
Getting chased around Egbinger by a couple of Black Omega Security before slipping into BVIP and the freedom and vastness of 0.0 space. There were very few people, more like space is supposed to be rather then the suburban feel of 0.0 today.
Killng a hauler carrying zydrine and mega and stuffing as much as I could into my hold. I was rich but no jump bridges, no cyno's, stuck behind enemy lines and having to try to get it all back to empire through actual travel.
Finally losing it and my battleship to another battleship pilot a few days later. I was traveling along a pipe and the other guy was too, didn't aggress me for 5 jumps but all of a sudden I guess I just looked too tempting or he thought I was following him.
Today nothing like that is really possible. You don't find haulers carrying expensive stuff 50 jumps through 0.0. Every second gate has a bloody bubble, almost every system has someone in it reporting exactly where you are and the excitement is just not there anymore imo.
Played both WoW and EvE and I feel the PvP in both games is now very similiar as well as many of the 'helpful' mechanics that have been added, resembling each other way too much (heals / RR, mana transfer / cap transfer, ports / jump bridges, cyno's) and losing a ship takes about as long to recover from as it does to recover from equipment damage in WoW. --------------------------------------------- Hate Bots / RMT? I really don't think that winning battles by any means is actually a new idea. There were A LOT of bugs/questionable tactics in the early stages of the game that people happily took advantage of to slaughter people.
Ejecting cans/drones to lag people out,The stabbabonds, stabbageddons, the ECM Multi-spec in everybody's mids, the old NOS in everybody's highs, 14km/s crows just to name a few.

Most impressive show of skill by the devs, IMHO, changing out the graphics engine in the client. (Trinity)
Impressive? idk about that, most old ship models actually looked better, Gallente ship models were beautiful. Now they are fugly. If I had a choice I'd run old graphics engine.

Prior Warp to zero (and making all those bookmarks - lag maker). Castor and subsequent fallout. When 6k would kill the hamsters. You could travel through massive amounts of 0.0 without seeing another pilot. Kieron.
Seriously - some nostalgia there, but change is good (for the most part).
