Hey all, I did a search and couldnt find any good comparison so I am going to just ask for more information. I'm a day or so away from Rorqual and if I sell my orca, I could buy myself a Rorqual and fit it a bit. Now, I am a long way away from Industrial Core. I was wondering, for low sec hauling, is the orca still the best option here?
Thanks

Well, the Rorqual is a lot cheaper than a jump freighter, though about 1/3 the size. Can't enter hisec like a jump freighter can.

IF you are willing to risk a 1+ billion ship that needs a cyno alt to move between systems then go for it. However the cyno will be broadcast on the overview so everyone can warp to it and gank it.
For just belt to station hauling, both are easy targets since they take forever to align.
A Rorqual usually sits inside a POS forcefield and gives bonus and compresses ore which is hauled to it by other ships and hauled out in a blockade runner due to the cloak and instawarp.

Thanks guys for the info.
Rorqual doesnt sound as interesting as perhaps hauling.

Once you compress the ore a Transport/Indy can easily haul the Ore if you look at it as *Maths Alert* Each unit of arkonor takes up 16 M3 and you need 1,000 units to compress so (16 M3x1,000 = 16,000 M3) or when compressed 800m3 so its easier just to compress it

So does that mean that the Rorqual is nothing more than a compression utility for ores?

Well, it boosts really good too, with the core running.

I use a rorq to haul with and it is very effective. What i do is use 1 rorq at a pos seiged within 2500m of a large ship assy array. The assy array gives you 18M m3?? ish storage, the boosting rorq removes ore and compresses it from there. The second rorq hauls from the belt to the assy array. In the hauler i fit 3 heavy nets, 3 cap tractors, and a cap sheild transfer. Mids are Cap sheild booster, sensor booster, and hardeners. lows are 2 cargo holds and a DC2. This gives you about 400ish m3 of hauling capacity per trip which will keep up with 15+ hulks comfortably.

The Rorqual is to lowsec/nulsec as the Orca is to hisec.
* Big expensive target with only drones as a defense. * Can haul a good amount, especially compressed ore/ice. * Is a mining command ship, providing boosts and support for mining.
As capital goes the Rorqual a very weak ship, probably on par with a single battleship for offense, but with a LOT more tank than a battleship.
A few brave/stupid/rich pilots will take their Rorqual into a belt, but usually it sits in a POS shield. It isn't unusual for a Rorqual to be carrying a control tower and a few days of fuel for a temporary shelter.
Everybody and their dog wants a Rorqual killmail. Probably more rare than titan killmails.
Any kind of hauling in lowsec/nulsec is dangerous. A Rorqual isn't safer than anything else. All you need is one cyno hot-drop and you are toast.

Rorq is a great hauling ship for ore but I would only use it in an upgraded 0.0 cyno jammed system also is good for moving stuff around but it needs to be properly fitted and you need at least jump drive calibration 4 and conservation 4

Speaking of Cyno Jammed systems - the Rorqual is the only ship that can really be used to pick up some abandoned POS modules like Cyno Jammers and Jump Bridges. I've found more than a few of these floating in space - free for the taking if you have a ship that'l handle them. Vote Illectro for CSM5! Supporting the New Generation of Eve Players |
