What would be the best choice for missioning, currently flying a Abaddon and I am 5 days off completing AWU V. So now I'm trying to decide which ship to go next...
I've almost got the LP required for a Apoc Navy Issue, Paladin is only a few days training, and Nightmare only requires 10 or so days of training Caldari ship skills... I've already got pretty much all armour / shield skills to 5/4. Also I am energy weapons only.
What you guys think would be the best choice? Paladin, Apoc Navy Issue or Nightmare?

Edited by: Vikarion on 28/12/2010 03:23:35 If you are planning to just shoot everything that moves inside a mission, or you plan to come back later to salvage, use a Nightmare. Why? Well, the Nightmare can pack more damage mods, and has better tracking. A burst tank with a cap booster is best - cap 800s are cheap, it's safe, and you rarely need to use it once you have excellent skills.
The Paladin is better if you plan to salvage on the go. Apocalypse and Armageddon are both inferior in all versions to the Nightmare and Paladin, since they do less damage and have less tanking. - - -

Nightmare is the consensus on the forums...
Also, dont cash your LPs in for faction ships, they generally ahve the lowest return as far as isk / lp goes.

paladin or nightmare. I don't really have a preference for either, like them both. paladin has a bit more of a cap stable tank and can loot/salvage on the fly, where the nightmare has better dps/range/tracking and a more than sufficient burst tank.

Nightmare hands down. Paladin has fitting problems, among other issues. Nightmare is simply superior in everything from dmg to tracking to cap. With a bit of pimping, you can maintain large booster permaboost with 4 heatsinks, tank & gank. Paladin has trouble fitting 4 tachs.

Paladin doesn't have probs fitting 4 tachs
[Paladin, PVE] Imperial Navy Large Armor Repairer Armor EM Hardener II x2 Armor Thermic Hardener II Imperial Navy Heat Sink x3
Cap Recharger II x2 Shadow Serpentis Tracking Computer, Tracking Speed x2
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency L x4 Small Tractor Beam I x2 Salvager I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit II x2
Hobgoblin II x5 Hammerhead II x5
Bearing in mind AWU5 is a requirement to fly a paladin and no-one gonna spend 20 days training that before they spent 4 training engineering 5 you even have enough pwg for a navy repper.
The nightmare with typically 4 HS will do more dps than the paladin with typically 3 HS but it's not a vast difference about 62 with maxed skills and the Nightmare will track better and has better downrange damage projection.
But the Paladin is alot more flexible it has 2 mids free for tracking computers to boost tachs tracking speed or can fit 2 webs plus it can salvage on the go.
Try Hitting a spider drone II at 8km with tachyons or a Delta II support frigate at 3km with mega pulses with a nightmare you won't manage with a paladin with dual webs you will.
With dual dual TC the paladin can track almost as well as the nightmare doing almost as much dps or at close range with dual webs it's vastly superior to the nightmare plus it can salvage on the fly, plus the paladin is about 400million credits cheaper than a nightmare.
Nightmare for long ranged missions Paladin for long and short ranged missions plus salvaging ability.
Thank you

Why would I ever try to shoot a spider drone or scram frig with large turrets when they're closer than 20km? My Nightmare can instapop any frigate while they're approaching from 50km away, but when they closer just use drones and turn the guns on the bigger ships.

Not all missions start at long range, in some missions the rat start close, the Paladin is better in that it can do the long ranged missions almost as good as a Nightmare is much better at the short ranged ones due to it's web bonus and can salvage on the fly plus it's alot cheaper.
And why would you want to, well maybe for lols to see what can and can't be done.
Thank you

There's that one mission where 4 mercenary wingmen spawn right on top of you. That one's fun :(

Use drones. Shooting close range frigs with large guns when you can shoot BSes with them is a waste of dps, so is fitting webs on pve boat.
Aside from that, the strength of NM is being able to fit 4 heatsinks along with tracking enhancers on top of already high tracking and range, applied dps is a lot more than paladin than paper dps would suggest.
