News Veil of tension in Providence starts to lift reported by: Emilianne Bouteiller | 2005.01.18 17:11:17 Providence: a region which has been the stage for one of the most elusive band of pirates seems to be now returning to normal, as reports of attacks on vessels have decreased. Mercenary fighters have been swift to claim recognition for this turn of events. After hearing the warning issued by the Amarrian defence forces, alerting their citizens to the dangers in providence, they decided to take matters into their own hands. One mercenary was boasting that they "have driven the pilots from the region, in a concentrated campaign of search and destroy. They didnĘt have a chance." Certainly it seems that whatever they have done, it has made the attackers think again. Several reports a day still come in of pilots spotting unrecognized ships, outside of sensor range, but whether these are the elusive pirate vessels, it is hard to be sure, as the groups have not engaged the pilots on even a single occasion. Reactions from the merchant travelers has been mixed. Many of them are now noticeably more at ease, setting up their ships once again for cargo capacity over speed. Others arenĘt changing their setups, but are more willing to venture to more isolated systems. But a small minority still refuse to go anywhere near the region, fearing for their safety. This group contains nearly all of the pilots who fell victim to the attackers in the last few weeks. Stations and inhabited planets in the deeper solar systems have also expressed relief, saying supplies were getting low and this new announcement could mean an end to their predicament. Some exceptionally deep systems had even introduced rationing of their food stocks when the merchant visits plunged dramatically.
This is a news item for today,2005.01.18 17:11:17.
I spend quite a bit of time in Providence, and I've never seen the "elusive band of pirates" to which Emilianne Bouteiller refers in this news item and in previous news items.
And if Providence "seems to be now returning to normal" to Ms. Bouteiller, such cannot be proved by my experience.
Four or five days ago, m3g4 and m0o both suddenly appeared in Providence, and they have since been giving the combat pilots of the anti-pirate corporations in the region quite a test.
Since I can demonstrate from my own experience the inaccuracy of this news item, I am now left to question the accuracy of other such reports outside the realm of my experience.
A grain of salt is in order when it comes to the reporting of Emilianne Bouteiller, it would appear. She has certainly visited a different Providence from the one where I live.

This is about some event or something that as far as I can tell hasn't actually taken place yet.
Maybe this is just groundwork still being laid for it, saw some guy in Amarr channel asking for intel on them etc..

Theres been at least 2 incidents with these minmatar pirates shooting things up.
Mind you, with the proliferation of freelance pilots, pirates and allinaces down there, I expect the pirates to be finished soon. ++++++++++++++++++++ CEO of the Space Munchkins. Fear my kneepads of allure!

Personally I think its yet another story arc. Hinting at stuff going on in the background involving "npc corps" etc. At some point players will be involved, if they haven't been already.
It doesn't really seem to fit the actualy player activities in the region over the last 4 months or so, at least that I'm aware of (admittedly not much )

I live in provedence and see alot of things flying thorugh. I HAVE seen pirates, not that often though, and the other day I saw I think it was 10-15 from m0o corp going thorugh y-m, then now and again some pirates come to y-m and camp but are removed. Thats what i saw anyway. ___________________________________ Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante |

i don't even pay attention to the in game news. it is often way off. remember these are people in like Polaris who have characters in eve in other groups as well. they only see some of the stuff and they often alter their words to reflect their point of view (natural thing to do unconsciously). the GM based stuff is dead on, but their observations of PC interactions is often off :/ |
