i have looked on the wiki, But i cant find out what i have to do to gain standing.Can someone tell me is it doing missions or completing certain actions?

doing regular mission give you standing with that corp, every few mission you get an storyline mission ofer. That give you faction standing.
I think this can help you a bit.

to be more specific, every 16 regular missions you get a storyline mission that raises faction standings. You definitely want to have the skill connections trained to 4.
If you really want to increase your faction standings do some cosmos missions. There like constant storylines. And give large jumps in standings.
After a few storylines, as your rep goes positive with a certain faction, remember your standings go down with there enemy faction. So you'll need diplomacy trained.

Best way to increase standings is.
Tutorial agents
Circle agents
Data centres
(Cosmo Agents)Optional
Level 3 Missions for the corp you want standings with. (It's quicker than level 4's for standings requirements.
Doing this will give you a large faction increase aswell as the ability to do Level 3/Level 4's
For more info there is a faction standings recovery guide on the forum somewhere i cant find it ATM.

Can anyone tell me if COSMOS missions are available to those with seriously low standing with factions?
Mine are -5.94 and -5.91 with Amarr and Caldari respectively.
I have Connections 5, Diplomacy 5, Social 5.
Would appreciate any advice. Desperate to get my standings to the point I can fly in all Empire space.

As was said before, this 'Faction Standing Repair Plan' is the fastest way to repair negative Faction standings as well as boost positive Faction standings.

Fly Cosmos missions. There are some mission where you can trade tags for faction standing. The tags you can buy on the market, you dont even have to do the mission completely to gain standing
