Edited by: Kara scott on 29/12/2010 11:55:38 HI ,
I was thinking of getting X3tc from Steam , I;ve nevr used steam before , but in some of the forums I read I see that people often seem to have problems with it.
Do you think its best to get this thru steam, or on DVD ?.
Also , with steam can you just download to your hard drive as a file? , or will it install it automatically?
cheers

When you make a purchase on steam, you install it straight from steam.
I too bought X3 because the package was so cheap. However, I can't stand the game. It's like EVE, but with all the good stuff missing (ie player interaction). But you may like it. --

Never had a problem with Steam, it's a pretty rock solid content delivery platform.
Also, you won't get a DMCA notice when one of your disks becomes unreadable and you have to download a copy of it, because it's all digital!
Everything will install automatically, patches will install automatically and continuously update as well.
I haven't bought a PC game from a store in 2 years, all have been from steam - gogo make the jump!

Edited by: Jhagiti Tyran on 29/12/2010 19:44:50 Steam is fine, I only ever had one problem with it after they broke something during an update and they repatched it within 12 or so hours. I buy most of my games through Steam now, gaming shops near me are rubbish about stocking PC titles and with 100Mb cable connection DL times are not much of a factor and the deal prices are nice to.
Just in case you missed this X3 TC has one of the best intros ever, X3 TC Intro

*shrug* player interaction has its place.. unfortunately it means that you also cant have fun stuff like mods or actual major changes to the game space, and it makes each player have some silly fairness rule applied.
Basically, if you want a game like eve where you can be powerful without babysitting a corp or making tons of friends, then x3 is that.
Of course, the vanilla game has such glaring holes (nothing competes with you really), you should also look into the scripts :p

Egosoft forums are immense, some of the best community and devblock I've ever seen.
It's a good game, get it on Steam, the advantage of the retail box which is what I have, is that the manual is too bloody big to fit in the case and has a extended cardboard case so you can read whilst you play.
With steam, you download and it installs as one, so once installed off you go!

You can play eve as a single player game and enjoy it quite well. One of my friends I turned on to eve only mines solo in a hulk to sells the minerals and piddles around with producing and has absolutely interest in anything else in the game. He does this while he watches tv or plays online poker and gets drunk out of his mind after work.
Is his way of playing eve wrong?

Not a big fan of X3, but not much of a hater on it either (it's ok).
I love Steam though. Saves me a trip to the dreaded mall. I've never really had a problem with it either, but I'd recommend doing whatever is better for you, based on advice from others.
Also, it will download it and install it at the same time.

The only problem I have with Steam is the flashbacks of using it on release.
You weren't there. You couldn't understand the things I've seen!
