I first thought that was Mashie Saldanas little minx there
Anyways, very nice.. only thing I missed on a fast fly-by:
- mentioning of the DIFFERENT sculpting options when you see your avatar from the FRONT vs the SIDE
- missing the cheek modificator area in that sculpting picture

Quick this thread needs a sticky. A guide like this most likely a video of the full process needs to be played after the eve intro video and the character creater so important facts like the randamiser dont get missed on the first pass.

Originally by: Niccolado Starwalker Nice guide. I am however dissapoint in the Intaki. It feel so "limited" I wanted to transfer my current into the new creator, and was not able to get something even remotely close or decent!
I wonder if I have got so attached to my current character that no matter what I make I wont be happy, or if it truly is so "limited" I feel it is. After all, I am tied to race, bloodline and sex.
Indeed, although the new editor makes very good looking high quality models, some options are far more limited than they used to be or have changed completely.
To name a few (only tried females): - Vherokior (Minmatar) look very asian now while they used to look like mediterranian types. It's impossible to remake them like they were; - Khanids (Amarr) also look more asian, while the "original" version didn't. Also the light eye colours have been removed; in the previous installment on the test server you could make them look Finnish but every light eye/hair colour has been removed now; - Sebiestor (Minmatar) now look spanish (almost like the Vherokior used to look) and they can not have a blonde hair colour anymore;
If you haven't, you should try it out before you're in for a unpleassant surprise mid/end of january. And I'm not the only one slightly disturbed by this, I found a proposal in the Assembly Hall to propose a free bloodline change since a lot - if not most - people wouldn't have picked their current choice with the changed options.

I wish I could hire you to re-do my avatar. I really dread having to do it, as it is bad enough to end-up looking bad with poor tools, let alone looking hideous with good ones.

Very nice thanks Hesperius Something u could / should had (wanted to do it myself) is to had some sample of random generated char for each races / bloodline like the first 10 for each , i know it's a huge gathering of images capture but this way ppl starting the game and want rather to choose "look" wise rather than any other factors could have a clue of what look they can have overall

Good guide. Lots of effort put into it.
One thing that I have found quite usefull is going back and forth between posing and sculpting. In the sculpting screen the character might look ok, but when in pose mode you may find out that the expressions allowed will not produce the desired effect. So this is when I usually go back and tweak the brow/jaw/cheek/nose just a little bit and check how it affects the posing stage. Usually the first iteration is not nearly as good as the later version, it a long process and most often than not you can get blind to your creation. When starting from something really far from ideal it's easy to get too comfortable with the first few tweaks, it now looks much better than when you started, but usually there's still much to do as the relationship between facial features are very much interconnected. Keep at it and there's a very good likelyhood you'll get a nice character in the end. |

Nice guide although I fear it will take far more skillz to get an individual look than the current version. I foresee a myriad of "clones" when the new creator hits or else many people just hitting the "randomise all" button until they get a look that's acceptable. Personally, it looks that I'm due an appointment with the tattoo removal guy and hairdresser chick in January -----

Nice work, but I have the feeling they'll need to delay it again. I just don't see it being ready as it stands. If it is released, expect many months of issues.

But the good thing if it's released on schedule with full of bugs / omissions, they have to allow us to later re-make our characters. Think of it like Minmatar having no tattoos at all on release.
Unfortunately it's more likely they will postpone the release of the character creator. No big loss as you can only re-make your mugshot. More important when Incarna hits TQ. |

Well personally I prefer postponing the release until everything is fixed and issues resolved. There's still a lot of issues - which CCP doesn't answer - and many people have their question marks about the loss of options, even though the editor produces nice enough results.
And well, Incursion part III brings incursions, I think that's the most important thing.

Glad some people are finding it useful.
The Intaki meth hair styles are not on the test server yet, so I can see how you would get a little frustrated there. However the bone structure in the base mesh is dead on IMO.
Thanks for pointing out the side camera bit, I added a line in to hopefully cover that.
As for the wiki, I can redo this on the launch with the final product. For now I just want to give people a heads up 'not to rush' through the character creation process. I know it will be launch day so people will want to hurry into the game. I'm really glad it isn't happening at the same time as a new BPO is being launched - otherwise you would want to rush through it to make that Noctis hype ISK. I would be in support of tearing it off into a 4th stand alone patch a week or two later. You are stuck with your character icon once you make it.
Video - I did record a couple creations, Ill toss some music over it or something if the codecs and size aren't a nightmare, but I expect the CCP video team will be putting a top notch video together. Also you want to hear StevieSG's voice more than you would want to hear mine, at least I know I do.

It can be done, but transferring it will be a bit costly (beside the actual price required by the guy doing the work).
You need to contact a guy to do the work (and hopefully pay in isk), then, when he has produced a face that satisfy you, pay in RL for a character transfer in a free slot on your account and then ask and pay for picture exchange.
I think that the transfer and face exchange can be paid in isk, so if you make a lot of isk and the guy doing the artwork is willing to accept isk or plex you can do it.
I doubt that a guy capable of doing a good work will work cheaply so 1 character can end costing several billions.
Maybe I would do it for my two mains if my results displease me too much.

Question: It is really laggy with my computer and I can't really do it on sisi. Is that going to get better before it's released? Have they mentioned anything about that? Any tips to make it less choppy?

You can turn the settings down in the options, otherwise you probably need to upgrade something. Hard to tell without knowing your computer's specs.
Also, a friendly BUMP.

Some good advice.
I wish I had read it before i got going on the test server.. I didn't realize once i pushed next and save that i wouldnt' be able to go back and mess with my potrait again tomorrow..
There wasnt' a "save progress and come back to it later" option or even a "go to game without completing picture" option on the test server.
I don't know how im goign to practice ... I guess i'll need to biomass and alt and pick the same racial time..
I imagine some people are better at this than others.
A Challenge to you..
Can you use my Jin-mei options an make a new avatar that looks like my current portrait ? .. a guy with a rounder nose and heavy cheeks a twinkle in his iey and nice eye brows... a sucessful middle age magnate and captain... someone who looks like their from the other side of asia.. more like middle eastern .. not a korean which seems to be close to what they have jin -mei toward.
my attempts went terribly astray.. wish i could post the picture from the test server.. I guess i'll need to do a screen shot and edit it.
