one way i thought of that wouldnt destroy using cloaks but would still help with them being exploited.
Is that when someone is afk for like 20 - 30 minutes then a icon appears next to their name (or color box or something) that displays that that character is afk, so then people will know that the person is afk. Then people who manage to stay none afk for 10 - 23 hours a day will then clearly be a macro cloaker and will be banned.
so people can still be cloaked and have no worries of running out of fuel or anything like that.

Yes please! Then the carebears can feel safer that the cloakers are there "AFK" and pay attention even less. The cloaker can then suddenly become non-afk and strike, but by then it will be too late. I love it!

i dont know any reason why afk cloaking should be nerfed, its a great and required tactic.

this is another one of those ideas that would be really nice, but at the end of the day, a cloak is a cloak, and ppl have the right to use it within the game rules however they see fit, regardless of how stupid it may seem that they do that, i mean wouldnt it be nice if there were no scammers, ppl couldnt ninja you or if insurance actually insured the cost of your vessel, but its just the game, it has to have drawbacks and at the end of the day, ppl ALWAYS find a loophole to act stupidly or in ways other players don't like.

people can cloak all that want still and do the same stuff, it doesnt change anything apart from people knowing if other people are afk,

That's like saying botting is a required tactic. One is making PvE based ISK, the other is performing PvP -- so you think PvP should be done without human involvement? ...
It is not a "required tactic". It's just a lazy way to play the game.

CCP can't stop massive amounts of highly advanced mining bots. You think they can detect if someone is afk or not? Afraid this idea falls on technicalities.

it should check for user input like moving the camera view around or clicking on something, so if someone manages to keep moving their camera view around for 20 hours a day then its pritty clear they are macroing.
probly the most anyone is online and actualy active in eve is probly half a day most, unless they have more time on their hand, but who sits there and activly does nothing but stay there cloaked doing nothing??? no one i assume.

Well, with all due respect... if CCP could make this bot detection easily, we wouldn't be having a massive problem with bots mining, ratting and running missions. This entire proposal is based 100% on CCP creating a bot-detection system. They clearly do not have one yet. Until they do - this idea is simply not viable. Technically this would be easier to detect than a bot running missions but... consider this:
It's perfectly ok to "dual box". We got people running multiple accounts at the same time. We got LOTS of people doing this. HOw do we tell the differece between an afk cloaker, and a guy that tabs in every 15 minutes to check on the state of the system?
EDIT:
On a personal note, I'd like nothing more than for this to be viable, because it would mean that CCP could finally start dealing with the excessive botting in OTHER areas...

Thanks for your input OP, but to be honest, I believe the real answer is simply to stop complaining about AFK cloaking. It has been said time and time again, many times in all too harsh terms, but if you (or me, or anyone) have such issues with AFK cloakers, you should not be in nullsec. Nullsec is not safe! You live with the reality of gatecamps, hotdrops, dragbubbles and all kinds of nasty stuff day in and day out. The answer is not to try and remove these things, but to develop the skill and sharpness to work around them. AFK cloakers are no exception to this rule.
Ask yourself: what is the worst thing that could happen? The AFK cloaker lands and pops a Cyno on your mining fleet? So what? Why weren't your pilots aligned to the POS/Outpost/station (for NPC nullsec) and ready to warp as soon as the AFKer appeared on overview? AFK cloaking REALLY is not an issue. We have had one in one of our ratting systems for weeks on end. Do our corp members let it ruin their day? Do we send them to the forums to complain and ask CCP to nerf AFK cloaking? No, we go right about our business, otherwise the cloaker wins.
Nullsec is nullsec, it is that simple.
No offence meant to you in any of the above, I just hope you can come to terms with this reality.

You're not thinking of the side-effects of your hamfisted change.
50 enemies in local. How many are a threat? Just count the AFKs.
I have a simpler solution.
When they've been AFK for half an hour, make them invisible in local. When they move, they appear in local again. It's just like they'd jumped in. |

The best ever way to not have to worry about cloakers in local
Is to get rid of local.
If you were in W-space, you can't even see whether or not there *is* an AFK cloaker in your system. On the flip side, he can't see you, so his time there as an alt-tabbed observer is wasted, and his time as a "red in local" is also wasted.
It's a Win-Win-ExcitementOfTheUnknown situation.

Problem is, unlike W-space, people know exactly where to find you. You'd have to make navigating 0.0 more complex before you removed local, otherwise it's still just "Set destination to x system with a cloak, gank".
W-space doesn't have this problem because you can't just choose the nearest system that lots of people rat in. And don't tell me you don't know or can't guess where people will be ratting. |

making all systems like WH would be one solution against all the afk cloak whiners. Currently, the most WH systems are empty because of the stupid amount of safe 0.0 for carebearing, where you have local and all telling you when you should hide in your POS or station. For this rason, afk cloaking is a good and required tactic to counter this, saying "ok, you hide on local +1, then hide the **** 23/7, sucker". Its all OK. Afk cloaker use the local exactly as the carebeasr does. However, the afk cloaker wins on this ground and the carebear come whining to the forums then.

How does the client tell when they are afk? If its movement based then its easily bypassed by a macro

How does the client tell when they are afk? If its movement based then its easily bypassed by a macro
pritty much how my main post says, if a afk cloaker that does nothing at all for 23 hours and manages to stay not afk will clearly have a macro spinning the camera around all the time/ some of the time. like i said im pritty sure no one could be none afk for like 10+ unless they have alot of spare time to do nothing but do one spin of the camera view every so often
