I want to tell a pathetically embarrassing story (posting with alt), but I will keep it short.
Was undocked about 95% aligned to warp to a deadspace mission in lowsec, when all of a sudden, an Ishtar pirate just warped to my undocking station.
I was able to warp off without getting targeted , and went through the deadspace warp gate once I got there.
I thought to myself: "Hey, he's in an Ishtar, he would gimp his fit if he put an Expanded probe launcher to probe me down. Also, it should take him at least a couple minutes to position his probes, etc. to target me even though he knows my direction."
Boy was I a fool, within 30 seconds, he found my deadspace mission location and warped on top of me. To further add to my foolishness, I forgot to activate my weapons turrets on him (he could have speed tanked them anyway since I was in a BS) since I was so focused on micromanaging drones. (PVP Drone vs. Drone combat is so much fun though!!!)
Anyways, how is it possible for someone to locate a ship in deadspace so quickly? Was he just good at using his probes since he know my direction? I have never been able to scan even a BS-sized ship in less than a couple minutes. Is it possible to warp in on somebody in a random mission deadspace using only directional scanner?
Reason I ask is because I want to be prepared for my mission of vengeance!

watched where you warped to, dscanned to narrow it fast, then probed.

Probably found your first wreck and warped to that. You gave him your direction by warping in front of him.

He was probably trying to scan you down to begin with and warped to you while you undocked
with probes out in the area and know which direction you went its a simple matter of align to your exit vector and scan probes in that direction. If you had a short warp within 2 au of the station he had you scanned down as you warped thru the gate. Then a simple matter of warp and gank.

probing down a BS is ridiculously easy, wouldnt have taken him long at all - literally seconds in a decent skilled covert ops.
