Edited by: Axel Strom on 06/01/2011 02:59:38 Hi,
A corpie told me earlier his myrm can tank over 1k DPS against Angels.
His fit:
6 x 200mm Compressed Coil Gun I
2 x Explosion Dampening Amplifier I (Yes, T1) 1 x Kinetic Deflection Amplifier I 2 x Large FS-9 Regolith Shield Induction
6 x Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
3 x Medium Core Defence Field Purger
5 x Hammerhead II
I ask you good (and bad) people of the forum, is there any way this side of hell he can be right? Can a BC (one that's designed to armour tank) possibly shield tank so much with a T1 fit?
Answers on a postcard please.
EDIT: OK now he's changed his claim to that it'll tank 700-800 against Angels, but will definitely tank 1000 against explosive... Question remains.

Edited by: Goose99 on 06/01/2011 04:09:51 The much-hyped passive myrm, 375hp/s shield regen, compared to drake's 235hp/s (that's a full tank drake with all sprs and no damage mods too). Obvious drawback is it butchers your cap regen. Passive myrm is one of the few boats aside from rattlesnake (huge 800hp/s regen) and nighthawk that can safely tank the harder lvl5s, where drake and ishtar get popped.

Yes. It is possible.
Remember, not every ship is limited ONLY to do certain things. You can mix and match a bit to get different result and use different tactics. The catch-22 to this is that not all ships are so adaptable. You cannot [effectively] shield tank a... Prophecy for example because it only has 3 medium slots (slots which are needed to mount shield mods). A Myrmidon has no problem with this as it has 5 medium slots to spare.
On a side note, this is why quite a few people like Minmitar ships... some of them are quite ambiguous about what tanking style they use. The Hurricane can be armor OR shield tanked and employ a myriad amount of different tactics.
With regards to the fit... the only real problem I can see with it lies with its capacitor power (or lack of thereof). Those shield power relays cut down the recharge rate of the capacitor by a significant margin (about 35% per). Ergo, your guns won't be running for very long (though, that should not be too much of an issue since the Myrm IS a droneboat... hmm). _______________________

EFT says with max skills it'll tank 816 DPS against Angel rats and 1320 DPS against pure Explosive damage. If he bumped the mods (not rigs) up to T2, that'd go up to 988 DPS against Angels and 1755 DPS against pure Explosive. Considering everything is named, he probably doesn't have the best shield skills, so with all the shield skills (Shield management, operation, upgrades and shield comps) to 4, he's looking at more like 714 DPS tanked against Angel rats.

Agreed on the guns thing. He should switch over to projectiles since he doesn't even have the skills for T2 hybrids, it seems.

As someone who's just started running lvl 5s this intrigues me. I've only been doing the kin/therm missions so far so as not to have to deal with the shortcomings of my ishtar's non-kin/therm resists, care to link your myrm fit? And what sorts of lvl 5s wouldn't an ishtar be able to tank? |

Oh yeah, I know the drake is good, which is why i was so surprised when he told me he had found a BC that was even better.

I do have EFT, and EveHQ, and there's something very wrong with EFT. I put his fitting into both, but made all T2 and applied my own skills (Which I can assure you are far higher than his) and EveHQ told me it'd tank 763 against Angels, while EFT gave me 440, so make of that what you will. Anyway, despite my sending him a screenshot of EveHQ he remained adamant that he was right, hence the thread.
At any rate, we had a little combat test in the end, and he certainly wasn't tanking 1,000 explosive, though it was tanking rather more than a BC has any right to IMO, and certainly more than my myrm ever did (but then I armour tanked that and it always got the job done).
Anyway, thanks everyone for your answers
