Im still fairly new (been playing about 2 weeks). I am looking for some advice on weapon fits for my Vexor. I have already discovered how lacking rails are on a cruiser. I have started training up projectile weapons and have considered switching to AC or Arty, would this be worthwhile on the Vexor (yes I know its mainly a drone ship)?
Or should I just not fit any guns and let the drones do all the work?
mainly looking into improving its loadout for lvl 2 missions maybe a little low sec ratting.

Welcome To EVE.
While I'm not familiar with the Vexor that much, here is a link that may help you.

A Vexor is fine with rails. Why don't you start by posting your current fit ...

I am going to make a big assumption here - you are new so you are using your ship for PVE.
For PVE purposes, I would suggest bypassing any sort of gun training and shoot for a Dominix. You will be doing more DPS with pure drones than you can with the Vexor + guns. You will also be able to comfortably tank Level 3 missions and possibly Level 4 sooner than later.
If I am making the wrong assumption, I apologize :)

your only weapons should be drones. In high just put neuts to make the opponent dry,
high:5x neuts med: mwd, point, web low: dc2,2x eanm2, 1600 rolled
rigs: 3x trimarks
In theory you can put also 5x med electrons , or at least 4 ( skill depending), or put 5x small neutrons, but in my experience 5 neuts ( even if small) kill enemys cap in few seconds causing very often 2 things: he stops firing ( no cap) and he noticed that just after few secs, and no active tank on his side.
Obvioisly, the downside is: beware kiting ships and those who dont use cap.
Also nano vexor are used and they are udes quite hopposite as the above fitting.

I'm going to assume your going for the PvE aspect of the game.
The Vexor is an amazing PvE cruiser, with Drones being the weapon of choice, and they will mince through frigates and cruisers without breaking a sweat. Training Drones V, Scout Drone Operation V and Gallente Drones II+ should be your first job if not already done as it will give you t2 hobs and hammers. It will help you throughout your entire eve career for almost every race of ship.
Gun wise, Rails do the job well, the whole idea is to grab aggro from a group by firing at them, once your red boxed by the lot, drones come out and go to town. You could go for a rack of 200mm or just a civi blaster in that case.
The other great thing is if your training up your drone and armour skills, it scales up the line perfectly, as all the skills you need for a myrm are identical for a vexor, and from there a domi is a short hop upward to sentries.
TL;DR Drones > Guns

Currently running a rack of 200 carbide rails with a salvager in the non-turret slot (for the extra isk from salvaging my mission wrecks and rats). I was considering replacing one of the rails with a drone link augmenter.
My current drone loadout is 4x hob 1s and 4x hammer 1s, will go up to 5 of each in about a day when drones 5 finishes training.
I was planning to go with a myrm for my BC, but prob a megathron for a BS (mainly out of looks, prefer the look of the mega over the domi)

Thats the great thing with the vexor, you can season the high slots to taste. Personally my setup was for lv2/3 missions:
[Vexor, Vexor - Poteque] Medium Armor Repairer II Energized Thermic Membrane II Energized Magnetic Membrane II Damage Control II
Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Array Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Array
Dual 150mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge M Drone Link Augmentor I
Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Warrior II x5
My first lv5 was hull upgrades, followed by the t2 drone skills paid off massively in my eyes but you get the jist. Dual 150mm's are just for aggro and occasionally shooting at cruisers, the drones really do all the leg work.
The problem with the Mega is that it really does need excellent gunnery skills to shine in comparison to the ugly (but very very effective) Dominix.

Thats a lot of cap charging for a ship that at least in my experience doens't have cap issues? I suppose if your trying to run L3s in it (I would probably get a Myrm before touching L3s).
have yet to see any L2s remotely challenge my Vexor
my current fit is
200mm carbide railgun x4 (dropping to 3 soon) salvager drone link augmentor 1 going in soon
Warp scrambler I Sensor Booster I 10 nm afterburner I (switching it to MWD soon)
Med armor repairer I Overdrive Injector x2 Warp core Stabilizer I
Hob I x5 Hammer I x5
This is still a very inexpensive build (maybe 6 million total between ship and fittings) as being fairly new I odnt have a ton of isk yet
