I've been watching my 3 local regions the last two days and have noticed a sharp and sudden increase in the price of these modules from around 12 mill to 14 million. A 2 mill increase in the last two days.
Where there has been the occasional looter(pirate) selling small amounts these have suddenly vanished and my local region now only has 1 single seller. Expanding my search to 5 regions i was unable to find a single seller of these items for under 14 million.
My query is, is this a simple suppply and demand concept or are 1 or 2 individuals simply trying to anihalate the market?
Where on earth are the causal players supposed to find the isk to afford such modules seeing as to outfit an apoc would now cost 56 mill in cap 2's alone. That is an insane valuation for something i believe costs 300k to make.
We all know a few select lucky people are making billions of these items. Good luck to them but tbh what is the point of a player driven market when the thousands that play can be dictated to by an incredibly small amount of individuals.
Currently what i can and cannot do ingame is being dictated to me by the people who own these bpo's. To a degree they have more power than CCP. People cannot perform certain functions ingame without these modules and if they are being priced out of the market for them how many dissatisfied players will then leave to find a game which will allow them to play with their own style and function.
CCP needs to put this BPO on the open market, restricting it to a few lucky random winners is choking the life out of the game. Give the bpo an insane buy price if they must, anything to remedy matters before this gets out of hand.

i don't agree with an open BPO, but a couple more bpo agent drops would be nice for this particular item. The T2 market in general seems pretty healthy with a good balance between reasonable prices & a healthy profit for BPO holders. Tech 2 cap recharger is a tight monopoly atm - although having said that, it's not like most ppl can't afford it. There's a shed load of idle isk in this game.

are you sure that t2 BPOs represent healthy market?
as far as I know, t2 BPOs trade hands for billions of isk. I really doubt that the owners can break even in under 2 years.

It is a fair assumption that T3 mods will require T2 mods as part of their builds - as such these bpo's are investments for 2 years, more than enough time to break even.
Also, as has happened with various T2 modules, some individuals are picking one module and buying every bpo they can get their hands on to push prices up. This is excellent business sense.
At the end of the day these modules are NOT essential. They are a luxury. If a casual player can't afford it, tough. Heck, I REFUSE to buy some modules because I do not believe they offer value for money (Cap Recharger II's being a prime example) - if players can't make that decision then that is their problem.
Not everyone should have everything in this game, it would make if carp.

'break even' doesn't apply to t2 prints as it does with RL investments. If you assume that a prints value remains the same, you don't have to make any profit to 'break even'. You just resell the print and take your money back.

Edited by: Nikita Fontaine on 21/01/2005 12:26:59 My suggestion... buy some eutectic rechargers (18%) its pretty close and they go for around 6-8mill, this is more or less half the price with no significantly lower recharge rate...

My understanding is that:
a. It takes too long to produce them. b. Very few BPOs.
So unless they distribute multiple new BPOs you're still going to have the price because of the time it takes to produce them. Unless you put a HUGE amount of modules on the market at MANY locations, you're still going to have pilots buying them up and putting them back on the market.

I'm for the " a couple of more bpo dropps" And for god sake keep it out of the "syndicate" 12 mill is very steep for one. And going pvp whit 3or4 of them isn't really an option. unless your name starts whit digital. But if the price whould dropp to around 6-8 mill I whouldn't cry for spilled milk. And it's a reasonable price for them. Problem is that, it's no sertain occurance that that will happen if you only dropp more bpo's.
So I dunno. SoonÖ

They are a LUXURY ITEM.
They are NOT a necessity. Sheesh, they use so much CPU they can be a liability.
Leave them as they are, good luck to those that own teh bpo's - don't like, find out who they are, declare war on them and force them to lower their prices.
You have the tools to force this, try using them.

get real. Not everyone have the strike capabillity as rkk have at it's reach. Every heard of alt or daughter corps? It simply doesn't work that way. For most corps mind you. SoonÖ

You're seeing speculators. It happens all the time. I got a great deal on some stuff a few weeks ago, put it on the market for the going rate (I thought) and some jerk bought it all up (100s of mil worth) and put it back on the market for 2X the price. That happens all the time.
All producers and suppliers can do is sell them once. If they sell them too low, speculators simply buy all supply up for a bil or two and then BANG, they double the price for even a couple of days until suppliers put more into the market and they make a profit while still having some stock left.
We've seen it with a lot of items up until now. We'll continue to see it.

First off, RKK aren't (as far as I can tell) and industrial corp. At all. "We" have no interest in those bpo's. Nor do "we" have any interest in buying the overpriced modules - we get enough from loot, both npc (eutectic) and player. Nor can we do anything about the alt and daughter corps - we're a 0.0 corp with virtually zero empire activity and that, of course, provides that you know which alt's and alt corps are doing the donkey work of the big guys.
However, that doesn't change the fact that a) they are LUXURY items and, b) a ship kitted to the gills with the best stuff will STILL die if you have a good team working with you.

No offence, but that is the reason that corps buy t2 bpos at 1-10 billion isk, so they can have the exclusiveness of making and selling modules on the market for whatever price they want. If you had spent 5 billion isk on a bpo, would you be happy a few months later to see them on the open market?
Miner 2s, the probably most used miners before exodus, are STILL limimited in BPOs 18 months or so later.
You and every other corp has had the opportunity to get these bpos, either by research agents, or by buying them. If you cant afford them, dont use them, simple, there are a luxury like every other tech 2 module. Get over it, adapt and evolve.

That was supposed to be my point
If the miner2 bpo was out pre castor, and is limited in number even now, and was at one time one of the used modules in the game, why the hell, do you think that ccp are gonna change a decision they made 18+ months ago.

there's so many ways of moving, reproducing and distributing items without anyone knowing you, RKK or an entire alliance wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to anyone with half a brain.

Though I mostly agree with that, there are a few very successful extortion outfits around now - and that is all it would take to get a few "free" cap recharger II's. But sure, it's difficult. You have to get them to fight :/
