The buy order with the highest volume and highest price goes on top The sell order with the highest volume and lowest price goes on top
Would it favor the big players too much?
I know it's probably a terrible idea, but I'm just trying to brainstorm some ways the current implementation of the market could be altered to reduce botspam and 0.01isking. I'd love to hear what some of the MD regulars think could be changed to improve the system.

Every market in EVE is a commodities market. There is no differentiation in product, therefore price is everything. There can be no other rational indicator - certainly not by volume. If you wish to make high volume purchases or sales then you can break through and sell/buy to/from several successive orders anyway.

Some markets have employed a pro-rata mechanism - where at a price point all orders get filled based on their volume. So 100 sell order might get distributed across the buy orders at the same price based on the size of those buy orders.
However pretty much every market is Price time priority now, First in at price x gets the goods.

I agree. Having said that, there's no technical reason that the markets couldn't sort by price, then volume, then time of last modification. I've been on a market where that is done. They work a little differently though we probably wouldn't notice due to the small price increment of 0.01 except on low price per unit items like trit (which would probably be the most affected market) or PI raw materials. Because big orders would get priority over small, we'd probably see more moving around of big orders.
