Sorry to say, but there will likely never be a PC port. It would be too unfair to the console players. A controller no matter how good the technology, no matter how good the player, simply cannot match the accuracy and precision of a mouse.

What does WoW and SW:TOR have to do with dust being a FPS competing with already established FPS titles?
did they change WoW to a fps since i tried a trial a ****ed it off?
-EDIT-
News just in, it's going to be console based when did they release wow on the consoles? As an avid console player aswell as pc's console gamers dont generaly give a **** about wow!
My point was it HAS to compete with THE MOST succesful console based fps'ers to date.

No, it doesn't.
CCP said they are going to use the same marketing model as eve with a slow steady buildup of the playerbase so all they really need to do is make sure there are enough players to form a core group to help new players get involved. As long as sov is influanced in a meaningful way that core will be eve players who also happen to have a console which by all accounts is a fairly hefty portion of the playerbase. Also Dust will be updated with new maps and features on a regular basis for free unlike the clone of duty series that tosses in a couple of new maps and some tweaks then charges you full retail for the pleasure of playing it. So as long as CCP get the fps part of the game done right the rest will take care of itself especially as word of mouth and positive reviews come in.

A pc gaming Business model is comparable to a console gaming business model how?

So selling a couple of hundred thousand copies is good?
Quote: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold an 1.23 million units,
UK alone.
Quote: Halo Reach - the exclusive XBox 360 title released in September - sold more than 300,000 copies on its launch day,
Quote: Call of Duty: Black Ops hauled in $360 million worldwide in its first 24 hours of release, reports Activision Blizzard.
So i say again a couple of hundred thousand copies total will be good how?
-edit-
Dont get me wrong i am not trying to kick CCP but saying it does not have to compete with the other console titles is bloody ludicrous.

As to the first part if they sold a couple of hundred thousand copies and retained just 30% of the players I bet ccp marketing would do backflips of joy. Remember kids that this is going to be a microtransaction based game so ccp makes money off it everytime someone want to get the upper hand.
As to the second part CCP doesn't compete with other mmo makers like blizzard because their mmo's are so different in concept and execution even though they are technically the same game of skilling up to pwn. So again, no, dust does not have to compete with cod to succeed.

CCP is a small business with around 300 employees and a customer base of around 330.000 active accounts (QEN 3/2010). Compared with WoW or SW:TOR or the whole cake of the MMO market that is a very small piece. Now look at CCP and how they do. From what I can see they're doing great with this kind of market share. If CCP would grow any faster the company would probably shred itself to pieces, as the structure to manage this kind of thing doesn't grow over night..
My assumption thus is simple: if Dust manages a similar piece of active subscriber accounts from the Console-FPS-Market cake, then CCP did good and will be fine. It doesn't need to achieve the numbers of CoD or Halo to be successful for CCP. support Public Idea Tracker | 24hr PLEX |

IIRC, the plan is for Dust to be free to play. You have to buy the game, and then there's a cash shop for game stuff equivalent to BPCs.

On a side note it will be interseting to see what they do with the PS3 servers..
Someone has to pay for the upkeep!
360's are covered as they HAVE to pay to playonline.
that payment though doesnt cover dedicated servers which are non existent on xbox live. whats more interesting to me is what CCP will do when ms and sony announce their next consoles.

While it is my first instinct to sit here and troll people, defend something that hasn't even come out yet and point out all of the reasons as to why people are wrong -- I can't.
Some great points have been brought up:
1. What will CCP do when the next console comes out? 2. Will console players have the attention span and/or drive to keep playing DUST 514? 3. How will the random average smacktard Joe react to a cash shop in this shiny new FPS he/she purchased?
And one of my own questions - will interacting with these people be worth my while? lol
While I am an optimistic person and I applaud CCP for doing something like this, I also see a lot of ways this could tank horribly. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

Port the game to the new console? CCP probably never thought of that. I'm sure they are totally unaware. Why is that even a problem, doom&gloom says the game wont have any customers 2-3 months after launch.
Originally by: Dante Marcellus 2. Will console players have the attention span and/or drive to keep playing DUST 514?
Well, I'm sure the majority wont. Let me ask you another question.. Do PC-MMO-Players like PvP games where you can full-loot?

I really do think Dust is an awesome idea, but some of the points made here are valid. It is unlikely it will hold the attention of the console community more than a few months unless it somehow manages to become the next best FPS. Then it might hold their attention a year or two at most.

If CCP can actually combine good FPS qualities with something different I can almost guarantee the game will do well. I don't know about everyone else but i'm starting to get a little bored of the modern warfare killing guerrilla fighters and stuff with weapons we are all very familiar with. If CCP can give something new, something that changes the playing field, it will probably do well. Things I (I can't speak for anyone else) feel it should have.
Aircraft: Give us the ability to fly with a high ceiling on the map, transport troops etc Large Battles: Come on, you can pack 2000 into a system (with lag admittably) give us 120 on a map or something like that. Make it FEEL like a huge battle! Vehicles: Tanks, Fast Attack Vehicles. From the trailer I think you have that down. Make the maps BIG: If you have the ability to pack a large amount of people into a map, make it massive. Don't give us little villages give us massive cities, sprawling coutryside, or maze like fortifications. Make it feel like we are fighting over something important. Give Weapons kick and power: Unless there is a specific reason to eliminate some recoil make the guns kick hard when we shoot them. Also, don't go the black ops route of having to us an entire clip to kill a guy in regular death match. It shouldn't be two bullets but make it realistic.
Give us this and you'll probably have a winner.
I've never actually done PI but reading some of the other comments I get the feeling that worlds have little value individually and are probably not worth fighting over. Perhaps if you control the entire world (with no other alliances/corporations having extractors on that planet) you can find more rare materials?
