i saw a apoc setup a few days ago that could do good damage at 120km i was wondering if it would work like this on the tempest
highs 6 1400mm howitzer 2 seige missile lancher
meds 1 mwd 1 sensor booster 2 2 tracking comps
lows 4 gyros 2 2 cap relays
The apoc version was
highs 6 tachyons
meds 1 mwd 1 sensor booster 2 2 tracking comps
lows 4 heat sink 2s 3 cap relays
would this work?

no because projectiles suck. you will only hit ... never. the tracking on projectiles is so screwed that i had 3 tracking comps II and at optimal from a station while i was stationary and only hit 1/3 of the time. Director, Divine Retribution

You won't get 6 1400mm on the Tempest w/o either PDUs or RCUs. Can't do it with an MWD either...
I've seen similar set-ups w/ 5 1400s, but minus the siege and the MWD

u can always modify the setup to make it work and the 2 seige arent necessary

ok...
HI 4 1400 1 Large NOS 2 Siege 1 Rocket launcher w/ Defenders
MID 2 T2 tracking comps 1 Sensor Booster 2 Sensor Dampeners
LO 2-4 T2 Gyrostabs 2 Warp Stabs 1 Med/large Armor Rep? 1 ??
Anyway, stay far away if possible. Works well if you have attack BMs near gates of 100 to 150 km. If tackled, warp away or nos/cruise him. If you get into armor, warp away to SS and repair, then return. Against 'other' long-range ships, damp him/them down to below 100 km range.

The armor rep is for staying power over time, not tanking
e.g., do you want to go to a station to repair after every encounter that bites into your armor? but its your ship..use what u want
And u will come across some long-range ships in most fleets that can shoot you. The damps can help u out, but thats only 2 gankeddons. What if there are four?

Setups ive tried on a tempest.
6x1400s 2xheavy Launchers (defenders/Anti frigate)
2xTracking Computers 2 2xSensor Booster 2 1xLrg Sheild Booster/100mn AB2
4xGyros 2 2xRC's (required for 1400's)
(now this setup will get you extreme long range but dont expect to kill anybody remotely skilled with it as even with all the Gyro2's its still rare i get shots over 300 with the 1400's)
I have been also playing with a dual 425 "gank" setup which is starting to show some promise now that i have a decent set of gunnary skills (2M+, Projectile only)
6x425mm 2xHeavy Nos (or Lrg Smart Bombs - untested)
1xXl Sheild Booster 1xSheild AMP 2xTracking disrupters (or hardners) 1xCap Rachargers.
4xGyro2 1xSensor Enhancer2 1xTracking Enhancer2
Now i dont like using shield tanks (mainly due to thier weakness and my lack of development along that path) but after trying 425s in "lab" conditions i was very impressed with the damage delt out and tried a build around them. Now i had no real choice for a sheild tank as i need all my lows for all the weapon mods, in reality i doubt it will last long anyway but with the damage i was dealing with the 425's i felt that it might be "long enough" Now the draw backs with this setup are many. 1.) very short range (about 3.5km optmium with phased plasma ammo, thats why im thinking about using smart bombs) 2.) very slow (i will have to try some varaints with AB2 or [shudder] MWD] 3.) Ammo (uses alot and you do not want to attempt to change ammo types during an enagement) 4.) still dont think it could take out a amarr or gallantly gank BS)
Ive found that im starting to really dislike 800's as after a few setups ive tryied it still seems that the damage delt out is mediocar (sp) at best, but granted all my 800 setups have been worked up around armor tanks.

What I don't understand is how you plan to either approach to 3.5 km optimal or hold the target there without any of MWD, Warp Disruptor, or Web?

if your not fitting 6 1400's or 6 guns for that matter isn't it probably wiser to go for a typhoon? especially if you want to go for range , and fitting 4x1400's +4x cruiser launchers+ range/damage mods is easy enuff as well.
All i want for cristmas is a typhoon with launcher rof bonus :) |

No because the typhoon has even fewer resources to play with than the Tempest. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Phoon doesnt have the Tempest's bonuses, which are the only things even making 1400s somewhat usable.
