Hi IĘm looking into becoming a Fleet Commander and want to know some tips and basics of it.
Mostly I just want to be able to command a small squad/roam gang.
What are commanding terms that Fleet Commanders widely use? There isą Hold Cloak andą Dunno what else.. |

Others include:
1. Gate is red/green (if there is an enemy presence on the other side of the gate, and wither you should jump)
2. Seige/triage is red/green (only used in capital fleets, the seige/triage modules require 10 minutes to run and prevent the capital ships from moving at all, meaning their cycles must be managed by the FC. So the fc will tell the fleet when they should activate a cycle.)
3. Get me a point/bubble on that ship (points, i.e. scrams and disrupters, and bubbles are very useful for pvp fleets and thus an fc will usually use the term "point" to tell the fleet to lock down enemy ships.
4. Warp to (insert character) at 10 (sometimes a fleet may have a cloaked scout setting a warp in for the rest of a fleet, but they don't want to decloak that scout, so they will warp the fleet at 10 so the scout can remain cloaked.)
5. primary (insert red name here), secondary (insert red name here), tertiary (insert red name here) (a large scale engagement will require fleets to tell their members who to fire at first. So primary is the first guy you want to target, secondary is the second guy, and tertiary is the third guy. A fc will call out the targets (usually by name), so that the rest of the fleet will know who to shoot.
6. battlecomms (this is a simple way of telling people in fleet chat and voice comms to shut the hell up were getting into a fight, i.e. "Battlecomms, clear fleet and voice")
7. hold at gate (simple enough tell the fleet to hold at the gate, either to let scouts stay ahead, prevent your fleet from getting detected too early, or to allow the fleet to collect the stragglers who are catching up)
8. burn to (system name), (tells the fleet to make best speed to a certain system, useful if you have a large amount of friendly/empty space and your on a simple roam)
There are many more that are used as well.

Before FCing a gang, you might actually want to fly with a gang/fleet as a member and learn the ropes. Pretty much learning by doing and listening.
If you don't have a corp/FC/whatever from which to learn, you could join Eve-Uni / Agony Unleashed classes to get the basics.

Most often used for roaming are:
align 'target' followed by warp or FC warps everyone at the same time. burn to gate means everyone burns to back gate and waits for a command. Hold obviously means everyone stays in the system and jump going through the gate. JOA 'jump on arrival' meaning everyone jumps through once they reach the gate.

Another one that originally mystified me, and which I can't remember right now (help me out guys.) is something like "return to gate"
When you jump through a gate you come out 10 or more kilometers away from the gate and spread out a little. If you reform on gate, it means you all 'Approach' the gate again so that you are in jump out range. Naturally, this allows you to jump out quickly, but it also concentrates forces.
Also, keep in mind that there is a difference between jump and warp. Warping is in system. Jumping is going through a gate.
I finally got one of my characters up to WC II, mainly for mining purposes. During that process I realized that some people are, or can be, good FCs. Many aren't/can't. Unfortunately, I'm one of the latter.
If you have the aptitude, by all means, lead. If not, recognize it early and provide the leadership skills while someone else is the Boss.

'Check Check' = Everyone should be quiet as the person saying this needs the voice com to relay important information now. Commonly used by scouts a jump or two ahead after their system starts to fill with reds and the FC needs to know.
