Hi folks, im interested in creating a PVP AF alt that doesent require a huge training time to be effective. I wont be training up other types of frigates so frig line up isnt important, only the AF.
I'm looking to use this alt for anything I would want associated with my main so pirating, faction warfare, griefing etc is the idea.
My main can fly Amarr AFs so I'm looking to fly either Gal, Minnie or Caldari.
The Ishkur looks nice but dosent get much of a benefit out of its AF skill bonus. The Minnies looks solid and the Hawk seems ok.
Im leaning towards the ishkur/enyo but have no idea how to fit the other races AFs.
Can pilots with exp and eft warriors make some suggestions on ships/fittings and why?
Many thanks, Jien. |

Edited by: Korg Leaf on 11/01/2011 14:12:57 its pretty much a choice of gallente or minmatar as assault frigates as the jaguar and the ishkur are widely considered the best.
I personally would choose gallente if you are sticking to frigate level ships as gallente frigate 5 unlocks the taranis which is one of the best interceptors as well.
edit. if you plan on flying larger than frigate further down the line then minmatar would probably be best

Getting the Claw and Stiletto is also pretty good. And as you say, once you get past frigates, then Minmatar is a no brainer.

Jaguar, personally. It's the super-versatile rifter on crack. More speed, more damage, more buffer.
MWD + MSE Buffer + Full tackle? Feel Free. AB + MSE Buffer + scram + TD? Works. AB + Scram + Dual MSE hp monster? Doable.
It's flexible, and while some AFs do more damage or tank a little harder, none of them have the flexibility of fit or the combination of speed / damage / buffer a jag' can pull off.
Falling back from that the Ishkur, with 3 mids and a swarm of drones, is a good bet too. I haven't flown one in well over a year, but in my experience with Ishkurs and Enyos, the Enyo's massive theoretical AF dps didn't matter much given blaster range / tracking and lack of web.
I'd recommend Ishkur over Enyo, though I'm not where I can eft / look up old fits at moment. If you do get a wild hair in your ass and solo fly an Enyo, consider 75mm or 125 mm rail guns for kiting or in combination with a short scram. The math doesn't look as nice as eft Neutron IIs, but the ability to hit / track in your scram range (dependent on prey, the 125s miss some fast AB boats) goes a bit further for a solo pilot than 'lolz 200+ dps at..2 kms'.

I have no experience with Caldari or Gallente AFs, just Minnie and Amarr. Since, you already know Amarr, guess I'll tell you to go with Matari!
The Jag is a fantastic ship; can get over 3000 shields with high resists and still mount Tackle and AB. Alternately, my favorite, is to dual-prop mod it with only 1 MSE. Very flexible ship. Very fast.
The Wolf is a beast, my preferred ship to fly; can get over 14k ehp while still packing over 200 Deepz. It is tricky and you lose alot of armor, but you can go over 300 dps for ratting. I prefer a compromise and go with medium armor, high mobility, and bigger guns.
Only problem with the Wolf is no Web, so fighting other frigates can be a *****, specially since you're armor tanked and slow. In any case, I prefer the Jag solo, Wolf gang/wingman.

Minnie's the only choice since with gallente you'd have to train up drones, which are skill intensive, and blasters/rails.
Jag's the ****zle too. ----------------- Friends Forever |

If this is going to be a frig-only alt I would stay clear of the Gallente - unlike the other frigs they need good drone skills to get that last smidgeon of damage - or work at all for the ishkur.
Ishkur really needs good drone skills - flying it for pvp without drone interfacing V and drone navigation V is nearly a crime. Those skills will be wasted for other frigs.
Minne and Amarr has the bonus of opening up the Cruor. I haven't flown the little leach itself, but a corpmate swears to it for good fun.

If you're only going to pick one, pick Minmatar if only because BOTH their AF's are decent.
Jag is arguably the best AF of the lot, although a lot of people swear by the Ishkur and I personally swear by the Harpy. Can't go far wrong with any of those three fitted and flown properly. The Vengeance is ok, but it's really a one trick pony.
However the real clincher is that while the Hawk, Enyo and Retribution are basically horrible (especially the Hawk) as opposed to the Wolf which, while not as good as the Jag, is still a decent ship.
Bear in mind though that AF's as a class need some love (starting with a fourth bonus thanks). I genuinely think you'll get more out of training 'ceptors than AF's - in which case pick anyone except Caldari (since their 'ceptors are total gash). Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

Gallente or Minmatar, I'd personally say do both as that unlocks the serpentis and angel frigs as well besides giving you access to a huge selection of the best combat frigate options.
If its only one race and only for frigates, go gallente. What is very attractive there is if you properly organize skill training, you get the Navy Comet early while waiting for the AFs, which is an insanely powerful frigate.

The Wolf and Jag are both awesome. Along with the Ishkur they're the top 3 AFs.

I'd train both Minmatar and Galante. Jag and Ishkur are nice frigs (those fits aren't bad at all) plus that opens up for ships like the (hated) Dramiel and the Daredevil. I can and do fly both (started with Minmatar) and the Jag is my personal fav for the AF line. Projectile weapons tend to be a little more flexible when you realize you need to GTFO instead of having to either drop or recall your drones.
It is also scary that you can get a dram up to over 15k/s with the right equipment, implants, and fleet bonuses.

Like most people are saying minmatar and gallente have the best selection of frigates. Minmatar requires less sp (no need for drones).
If you fly frigs a whole lot then I'd suggest training both, since it opens up the dramiel and daredevil, which are probably the best two frigates in the game.
