I was wondering if some kind of event or lottery could be held where the winner or winners won skillpoints. Not a lot of skill points, but a substantial amount. The skillpoints would just be unallocated skillpoints like when the learning skills were removed.
This would give people the opportunity/chance to catch up with some of those higher players. Some people have suggested the buy/sell of SPs ingame. That isn't what I want. That would be bad for the game, but this simple thing I think would be good for the game.
New players may quit because they realize how far behind they are compared to alot of players. It was part of the reason why I quit playing for like 6 months last year. I would just like the opportunity/chance to catch up a little to some of those higher players.
FYI, I am 100% not interested in buying a character with a lot of SPs. I want to improve my own character. Not buy someone elses.

Edited by: Sturdy Girl on 13/01/2011 19:43:16 You're gonna get flamed for this.
I'm gonna opt to be nice but tell you why I really dont like the idea:
1) Basically, there used to be a lottery system which distributed Tech 2 BPOs. It was a terrible system that almost everyone agreed was flawed, so it was removed and replaced with invention. Despite the improved system, arguments have never ceased about the T2 BPOs that still exist. I very much doubt CCP want to repeat one of their biggest design mistakes.
2) Skills are not the be-all-and-end-all of this game. Player skill is vastly more important. Remember, this is not like other games, where a level 50 character stomps all over a level 25 character regardless of the quality of the player; most of the bonuses that skills give you are generally only about 25% better than normal. Yes that advantage is important, but its not impossible to overcome.
3) Sure, skills allow you to use new stuff, but since you can only bring one ship to a fight, all the training for all the other ships you can fly is effectively useless. Beyond a certain point, having more skills just means a greater WIDTH of options, where the options are not necessarily better than each other; there isn't actually that much difference in HEIGHT between options in Eve. Sure T2 is better than T1 but its nowhere near twice as good. A battleship has mostly higher stats than a frigate, but they are used for different purposes. You dont tackle with a battleship.
4) Lots of older players have taken breaks, or paused training their main to train an alt, so you are already catching up with those guys.
5) Eve is a game which requires patience in many ways; I personally like this fact about skills work in Eve. I never feel like I should log in just to level my character, and I always have a little something to look forward to.
6) Why a lottery? It doesn't really make any storyline sense.

The more SP you get, the less toons of bitter vets will be worth.

Well, the only way we got to where we are was by *You got it* Playing the game for longer.
You essentially want to be able to get what you want now with no cost? No.
We have been dedicated for years to get where we are And we started where you are. No.
And, once more for impact. No.

And with good reason. Eve is not a game of instant rewards. And the day it starts to become that, is the day it dies. It may still be up and running but it will be Eve in name only. --Vel

They're already getting where you got faster. Removed learning skills and added a flat boost for everyone. Mudflation applies even to SP here in eve. Whatever you had, it's worth less now. Boohoo...

I will just leave this here -
Originally by: CCP Fear Total SP is not equal to player skill or their abilities. Two players with equal amount of SP could be totally different in all shapes and forms.
What matters is specialization, and you can specialize only so much in X field. After which it becomes player skills and knowledge.
Example; Two players one veteran from 2003 and one from 2008. One has about 100M SP and the other some 30M SP. There is obviously some 70M SP gap between them, but they could be equally proficient (from skill point of view) in some field. So if that (for example) flying a rifter with some specific fitting, then they are completely matched, regardless of their total SP. Then it's player skills and knowledge that prevails.
Granted, those that have been playing since 2003 might be more specialized in more fields, but that doesn't mean you can't beat them!
Point being, decide on your specialization, train in that direction and you are valuable. Regardless of your total SP!
I also have a few questions to the OP....
1. What if a 'higher player' won your suggested lottery?
2. Isn't it the same for EVERY mmo? A new player is behind a player that has been playing for 4 years???
3. You quit because people who have invested more time into the game than you had more skill points, out of intrest, what game did you go to? and why did you leave that one? ------------------------ Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum "I've got a couple of Strippers on my ship... and they just love to dance!" ------------------------ |
