When you play around with the new character creator, during the portrait view, when you create your portrait, you are given the opportunity to take four snapshots. Please keep in mind that when you take these pictures, currently only the last one is used by the client and EVE Gate. Please do not accept your portrait unless you are 100% satisfied with how it looks! And if you blink, simply take a new picture.

With the release of EVE Online: Incursion 1.1.0, our customer support team will be handling a lot of petitions in the short term, and you can help by ensuring that your portrait is exactly as you want it before you finalize the way you look.
There has also been a little confusion about what exactly the grace period refers to. For the next several weeks, we are allowing players to choose whether or not they would like to use the character creator immediately, or to take some time, play with it, or consider how they want to design their gorgeous characters. It does not mean that you will be able to design and redesign your character after you've accepted your portrait.
We will be announcing the end of the grace period at a later date, and will provide plenty of notice. But once the grace period is over, you will have to use the new character creator to design your characters.

When you say only the last one is used do you mean the picture that ends up in the 4th slot or the last picture captured regardless of what slot you capture it to? It isn't very clear from your post.
I currently have a petition to redo my portrait as this wasn't obvious when making my char and also my current portrait (as well as not being what I want) also looks like his eye ball is falling out. Just want to make sure I don't end up having to file another petition to fix again because of lack of clarity.

This matter seems so unclear with conflicting answers from players AND CCP, I just made sure that I only used one slot, cant go wrong then. The other 3 are pointless after all so why muck about with them.

The fact that it also say that only the last one is used currently also makes me wonder if the other 3 are still stored and we'll be able to alternate, rotate or select from multiple portraits in the future.
It would be nice to know if this is the case and also if we'll be able to re-pose and update portraits in future expansions when there are more cloths, decent hairdos and better accessories such as tattoos.

The whole snapshot preview feature is badly designed. The preview pictures are tiny and any unselected previews are tinted dark, which prevents you from doing a true side by side comparison. They should have just had 2 previews, with much larger pictures.
I also fell for the "grace period" confusion, thinking that I could edit my avatar until the end of the grace period. I'll make a petition, but CCP could have saved themselves a whole load of work by adding a couple of extra conformation and information boxes in the character creator.

Just spotted this post from CCP Caedmon saying the do plan to allow us to recustomise our characters from within game in future releases which is good hopefully that will also include the updating of new portrait photos.
In which case I just need to fix the issues with my eye looking like it is falling out.
