The Minmatar are based by their background as Tribe people like the RL Nature Races, if you combine it to RL and look which kind of people were the first one who lived in this form of society and nowerdays still do on some places on the planet, you will see, why the Minmatar are mostly made in darker skin colours, that is not racism, but a fact of human evolution. And therefore the idea of the developers for the Minmatar is very good. After the EvE gate crash, the people searched for their roots by creating their new societies.
So at all it fits for Minmatar, that they are and look like they are acutally ingame.

Two points.
1. Brutor have always been pretty dark skinned with a marked tendency to african features. You could created a darkish complexioned, almost white avatar with the old creator but it took a conscious effort and was never 100% convincing.
2. All or most Minmatar got enslaved. (Some backstory suggests that a small number off planet might have avoided it, some maybe escaped in the early days of the war, before Amarrian occupation took a firm hold). So my character is the descendant of slaves, and is not black.
This racism stuff gets annoying.

This. After all, the only thing that the bloodline/race defines now is the appearance (and the starting frig 2 skill... what is it, like a 1hour training to get even? Oh and the starting corp as well.
Don't want to be black, go caldari or amarr. Don't want to be white, go minnie. I'd have liked some more options on "shades" as well, but hey.
Seems to me that CCP just wanted the chars to be recognizable from their features - just like in the real world you usually can tell someone with asian or afrikaan heritage, or native american or whatever with a glance.
It's like complaining that dwarves in D&D could not be mages.

Over 27 million people around the world are slaves, and at least 200 million people exist in some form of bondage. Slavery has never been specific to any country or race it endemic of the human population.
The Minmatar were not slaves to begin with.

Given
a) the wide variety of races on Earth, and
b) assuming that most of planetary populations in Eve don't ever leave their planet, and
c) that skin color tends to be tied to sunlight (people in low-sunlight areas tend to have white skin to absorb more vitamin D more easily, while those in sunlight heavy environments tend to have darker skin for UV protection)
then
d) you would expect a huge variety of races both on a single planet and between planets in a single empire.
tldr; Eve still isn't realistic.

That's..not actually how that works at all. Evolution doesn't have that much of an effect in the very short period of time that the human races were separated, you'd have a hard time proving that people of a given race are more prone to tribalism than others.
Regardless, only one of the Matari bloodlines is really black. Sebestior, as an example, look Scandinavian (at least mine does). The reason why? Because the Amarr came across them and decided to enslave them, because the Amarr are ****s. That's the only necessary reason, and trying find racism in it is pretty pointless.

Not all Minmatar are dark skinned. You just happened to have one of the bloodlines that is.
This was the darkest tan I could give my Seb character.
