I realise that I didn't know the answer to this before, but it has more of an impact now. How can I tell before submitting my program if the volume of material is going to overload a part of my route to its storage? I'm sure it's there and I'm missing it, but being a man it could be right in front of my face and I'd still not see it. Many thanks,

After you select what product you want routed, move your mouse over the destination and if any of the links between pins goes red, then its going to overload that link.

Hmm, I was hoping to get something in before that as at the moment I can set up an extraction plan only to have it fail because the link between the extractor and the storage is overload, so I have to cancel my changes (or remove a head) and then go back and upgrade the link.

You could... look at the link properties. I can't check the values myself right now, but an old web site suggests that a level 0 link carries 250 m3/hour. That's 25,000 p0 per hour or 6250 p0 per 15-minute cycle. So, if you will extract more than 6250 in any single (15 minute) cycle on your program, you will need to upgrade your link - check the HIGHEST cycle and not the average cycle!
In my experience, even many highsec planets will overload a level 0 link between one ECU with all the heads out and a space port on a 24 hour extraction plan. So, expect to need to upgrade your links, and you won't be disappointed later.
Thus far, I only upgraded a link past level 1 once. This was on a lowsec planet on a very short 1-hour cycle. I imagine that the people in wormholes or null sec might need level 2+ links, but they aren't really necessary in high sec or low sec as far as I can tell.

Okay, I think I've got it now. I'll have a play once downtime is complete.
Cheers all
